    Wiley Question –

DON’T BELIEVE THE ESTIMATED STUDY TIME IN CPAEXCEL. This is my last exam, so I’ve known this for awhile. But, I studied Pension Expense this morning, which they estimated 17 minutes of study time…to read/review the material AND 14 MCQs…AND 7 SIMs. So ridiculous. It took me 1.5 hrs. to review and actually understand the material. I didn’t even get to the practice MCQs/SIMs.

I’m basically venting 🙂 The review itself is fine…I’ve passed all other exams with CPAExcel and Ninja Audio. (I failed FAR the 1st time b/c it was my 1st exam and I grossly underestimated these exams – didn’t even finish all of the review material).

    AUD: 84 - Oct. 2013
    BEC: 83 - Feb. 2014
    REG: 91 - May, 2014
    FAR: 68, 96 - Oct. 2014...DONE

    CPAExcel, Ninja Audio (all sections)

    @Juliemiddle:

I feel your pain. I have CPAexcel, and went completely through it for FAR, before moving my test date back, due to feeling too rushed through that maze of material. I think many people with that program probably read the study text from the book or print it out, which skews the study time to the lower end. Despite thinking it is a decent program, I decided to go through round two using Gleim, and have scheduled my test for 10/18, I think it may be just the nature of FAR, but I felt way too rushed getting through modules with CPAexcel.

What do they call an accounting person, who only managed a 75 on all four parts of the CPA exam....you got it, CPA!!!

    BEC (2/28/16) ----- 78
    FAR (09/10/16)-----
    AUD
    REG

HA – that's hilarious, I actually remember this lesson exactly for the same reason. I also figured out it didn't track my time for the TBS…which I suspect is a bug for that particular lesson because there is NO way anyone can do that in 17 minutes.

However, I would also say that more often than not I come in under the estimated time. And I rarely go over the time estimated for the assignment as a whole, with the rare WTF lessons (like pension expense) and some material that I just struggled with.

But, then again, I only look at the text (which, yes, I use the books…but also open the module to “start the timer” if you will while reading), the TBSs, and the Past Exam Questions. So people like me are going to throw the average way off compared to those who look at everything for each lesson.

I only read the material and did a few MCQs for each section. It still took a long time to get through FAR. Probably less time than CPAExcel estimated, but still exhausting.

    FAR: 4/19/2014 - 85!
    AUD: 5/27/2014 - 90!
    REG: 7/18/2014 - 81!
    BEC: 8/13/2014 - 84!

I wouldn't say any single study program is terrible. You have to find one that works with the way you learn. If you can't find one that works with the way you learn, then you need to modify the program to meet your study needs. Nobody said you have to follow the programs word for word. I have used only CPAexcel and you can see my scores. As far as the study time the planner provides, I wouldn't worry about what it says. Use the Ninja method to get in at least 20 hours a week, and study no more than two months per test.
