    Hello All,

I recently passed the CPA exam after almost 2 years,it was a tough journey and with immense help from this forum. Now I am on the next part of getting the CPA License and still researching about ethics exam etc.

In the meanwhile I also searched om this forum as to job search tips/advice.I got few posts and were helpful,But I thought to post a new one seeking for your inputs.

1)Whats your technique for applying for jobs?

I will share mine,I have uploaded my resume on job sites like monster, career builder and also applied directly on various companies. I also look for job opportunities on linkedin and there are really good genuine jobs out there.

    2) Whats the current scenario for accounting finance jobs hiring?

I know its tough out there to fetch a job, also just doing CPA will not warranty a job but YES it will improve my prospects. So any one as to how the hiring trend is.

    3) Many people here suggested to build networks as they can really help to get a job

How to build networks? I am currently unemployed and would like to know your way of building networks.

Lastly for me getting a job would be a slight more tedious than rest of you all because I not only have to find a job but also a valid sponsor to apply for my work permit.I know ,have read earlier on this forum that close to none were able to get sponsorship. But that is what is motivating me as many people tell me its very difficult and I have answer in my mind.”Wait n Watch me”

But hey after I cleared this CPA exam it has taught me one thing “to be positive and wait for the right time,Nothing is impossible if you try hard”

    Any inputs would be appreciated.

    Good Luck

You'll be fine, there are opportunities out there. It wouldn't hurt to get your feet wet with Accountemps (placement agency) that place you temp jobs that often can turn into permanent jobs.

People tend to network by going to alumni events (if you are still in your schools city), or events put on by the state society of cpa's etc. I'm not much of a networker, but I seem to think it has helped a few of my friends. Staying positive is important despite having to live in your brain 24/7, it's easy to tear yourself down.

Apply apply apply is your current “job”, and keep it up!

    REG- (1) 76
    FAR- (2) 64, (5)74, (7)83 (Over achiever!)
    AUD- (3) 70, (4) 75
    BEC- (6) 75

If you haven't already done so, I would recommend connecting with recruiters on linkedin. They are constantly searching for candidates on there. That's how I got my current job and I know of a number of other people who have found accounting jobs that way. Good luck.

List your CPA credentials on Linkedin. Linkedin is where most of the action that I get nowadays. I don't even bother directly applying to companies. I highly recommend you avoid that as well. It takes so much time to give them all your personal information, etc.

Network, as in, keep up with friends. I've interviewed at friend's jobs before. If a recruiter reaches out to you via Linkedin, just keep in touch.

Recruiting companies like Accountemps are good too. My first job out of college was from a recruiting agency. It was a $17/hour entry level job turned permanent in 6 months. Strangely, I got a pay cut from the direct company to $15/hour, but I quickly got a salary raise to $40,000. 3 years later, I'm making $60,000 salary, found another job with the recruiting agency (not accountemps ;p)

On Linkedin, make it so when you visit people's profile, they can see your full name/title. You don't even need to mail anyone anything, they will mail you if they're interested.

Hey number_cruncher_24 & pikachu.. Thanks for sharing those tips :):)

Yes I am on linkedin and constantly apply on jobs listed on linkedin.

But how to connect with recruiters through linkedin,I manage to apply on their company website but when I try to go to sm specific person profile and try to send mail it tells me to upgrade linkedin premium where I have to pay some fees.If it helps to get a job,I don't mind but currently not upgraded.

I am still trying to learn how to network on Linkedin, but it's far better than other job sites.

Yes I have added CPA candidate to my linkedin profile, joined some groups as well. now just want to learn how to network on linkedin, will explore that as well.

    Thanks guys for those tips.

Nishvik, do you have access to your university career center? Maybe they could help with your resume? It seems like English is not your first language. I think that could be a barrier too, people can notice in emails, applications, etc.
