So FARE has been my big project. I figured I wouldn’t go on to the others until I passed FARE which I determined was the “hardest” of the exams. It took me a while but I did it. Now that I finished FARE the others don’t seem so bad.

    FARE – 58, 62, 64, 68, 69, 66, 76.

Seven tries and on the sixth try I went down three percentage points. Don’t give up. I’m now one test away from the goal.

Whoa! You guys are really motivating me to do this again! I cried myself to sleep last night thinking I'm an idiot and could never get through this…thinking all the horrible things “like maybe I'm not smart enough for this” =(

I took FAR in May and got a 70 and I took it again in August and got a 70! I studied A LOT for it and felt very prepared! Taking it 7 times means you really, really want this! I'll try for the 3rd time but I don't know what material to use….I have to sit for it in Oct so that only gives me a month to study! Nov is out of the question because of work…I'm using 2009 Becker material…any suggestions on what to do next?

    Good job!!!

jessmile – I would say get the yaeger cram or becker final review… maybe the yaeger to kind of change it up and you can probably get it done in time as opposed to switching to yaeger hs… best of luck! you are close just need something to shove you to over the 75 mark! Best of luck!!

Great post during these tough times for some of the strugglers like myself. Do not a score below 75 dishearten you. We just need to put in more effort than some. I get so excited when I see someone succeed after such tenacity!

Thanks for the inspiration! I took the exam with no luck back in 04, then life had other plans (marriage, children, new house, etc.). Now at 33, I'm kicking myself for not taking the exam fresh out of college.

    hey garys_1157,

I'm 31 turning 32 and I also kick myself for not finishing this back in 03 before they changed to the computerized version. They funny thing is that I got a 68 FAR, 72 LAW, 40 ish in AUD, and 50ish in Reporting. On my first try and failed again on my second try. I gave up thinking I was such a loser and I didn't have what it takes to take this exam. Too bad there weren't forums like this back then. On the bright side, we'll be more updated than those who passed 10 years ago. We'll be CPAs 2.0 or 3.0 🙂

It is so incredibly therapeutic to post on here and get the responses of others going through the same thing. I once heard that after the Vietnam war many of the soliders went to psychologists to try to recover from post tramatic stress of the war but the psychologists had little to no effect on many of the soliders. But when the soliders sat down in a room with other soliders who had also been in the war and discussed the things they saw this was very therapeutic and many soliders recovered.

This might be a stretch but this test is the battle of battles (major challenge) for me. Spouses are supportive but don't fully understand, my brother told me today “I know a lot of dumb CPAs so it can't be that hard”, and my neighbor said “

I was able to get my MBA online and that is a LOT harder” (right). People here on this blog understand becuase we are all down in the trenches together.

    Keep battling!

Jesmille Please never think that you are an idiot. Part of this exam is not only knowing the material but understanding how the examiners play tricks on you. I started w/Becker and switched to Yaeger, but I have to say the one thing Becker did that Yaeger doesn't do too well is give you reminders of the way the examiners like to ask questions to screw w/your brain. So its not about how smart or dumb someone is its about getting past those pesky tricks

getthemonkey – i definitely agree its like when you are in school in a tough class and only those people truly understand it… it may not as be as grand scale as being at war but your brain is still under a lot of stress that unfortunately many outsiders don't understand at all…. and getting by those people everyday that say don't worry you'll pass, why are you studying all the time, etc… but we are all here together to catch one another and throw us back out there for the test to get us again…
