AUD – Overly confident?

    I sit for AUD in 10 days. This is my first section so I am uncertain as to my level of preparedness. I just took an Audit class this past semester and have studied exclusively with Becker. I averaged just around 70-75 on the first run through on homeworks and on the first final exam I earned a 73%. During my reviews I have been averaging about 85 – 90 on the homework/progress tests. All of these make me feel like I am on track come test day.

    Am I being overly confident? Is just becker MC enough or do most supplement with Ninja or another test bank?

    If there's an exam to be overconfident with then AUD is it. I actually moved my exam up like 3 days because I was rocking the MCQs. I was scheduled for a Monday, and there was no way I was going to spend 20 more hours studying over the weekend, so I went ahead and did the Prometric shuffle.

    I felt the same on AUD. The most difficult part is taking the time to thoroughly read each question because the wording is so particular. I also had issues staying focused (in the beginning) because it's all concepts – very little numbers. Once you get the big picture though (audit cycle, report format, etc.), a lot of AUD is intuitive/common sense. Your scores are great – the only thing I'd be concerned with is if those scores include a lot of repeated questions. You have to make sure you understand the why an answer is correct, and not memorizing answers. Make sure you are practicing SIMS and are familiar with the AL. Other than that, I think you are in good shape.

    Better to be over confident, than under confident, especially with AUD.

    I had similar stats going into my first run at AUD, using Becker only, and failed. However, I still feel that I was prepared to pass that first exam, I just didn't take the exam carefully enough. I thought it was a cake walk and finished with an hour and a half left. There is no doubt in my mind that I got tripped-up on some of their wordy questions. It looks like you are probably ready, my advice is just don't be overconfident come test day. You have plenty of time to finish the AUD exam, go slow and make sure you are 100% confident in what they are asking you and be able to justify why the other 3 answers are wrong for each question. I supplemented Becker with NINJA MCQs for my AUD retake and also used them for BEC, I find them very helpful and a sure way to add a few more points to your score. Not everyone needs it though, many pass with just Becker. Good luck!

    That section is like seeing an illusion in a desert. You think, “man, i'm safe-I made it,” then boom. You discover you barely passed or failed. I ended up scoring in the mid 70's on the HW's, but barely passed this section with a 76, despite doing fairly well on the simulations (only section, where i feel fairly confident on the sims). Then again, this is the only section, where i also got the stupid research sim wrong. My bet is that sim is worth 5% of your overall test, since I got around 81 on the other sections of the test.

    B=84 This exam was such a b**** that I thought I failed-don't know how these things work
    A=76 Slacker I am, I'll happily take it
    R=81 I LOVE taxes
    F=80 I don't wanna get banned for an expletive I'm thinking with "yea" proceeding it

    I felt the same with AUD when I took it in November…I was doing really well with Becker (getting in the mid-80s-90s on my first try on the homework) and thought I had a solid understanding of the material however, I did not pass…got a 74! The MCQs were difficult (all 3 of my testlets were difficult) but I way underestimated the SIMS, they were so hard! I thought the Becker SIMS were easier so I didn't spend that much time on them. I just took FAR and I think the FAR SIMS were difficult but the AUD ones were more so.

    When I got my score release back and saw my results I was “stronger” in 4/6 topics and weaker overall on the SIMS. So I think I must have passed the MCQs but not the SIMS. Dont underestimate the SIMS!

    Good Luck on AUD!

    I scored in the mid 80’s in my Becker test run final and got by with an 80 on the actual exam. Usually, people do 10 points higher on their actual exam. This was not the case for me.

    I don’t think Tim Gearty is a good audit instructor-terrible in fact. The only thing that saved me was taking Becker final review with Mike Brown (I believe that is his name). He did a much better job of explaining why things happen, has a much better command of the English language, and did read straight out of the book. And, did not mix up the concepts like Tim did on many occasions.

    I also had easy SIMs which saved me. I recommend getting NINJA MCQs to supplement Becker.

    Good luck!!
