AUDIT RESEARCH TAB – AU-C or AU?

I was just curious what the difference was between the AU and AU-C on the Audit research tab questions. Sometimes I find something that fits exactly what I am looking for in the AU section and Becker tells me that the correct answer is and AU-C tab.

Since then in my review I have only been searching for answers that begin with AU-C.

I have heard a few different things, that AU is for Issuers and AU-C is for Nonissuers. And others saying that AU-C was being used during 2013 to differentiate new standards from the existing AU standards, and that now in 2014, everything is combined and it reverts back to AU.

I guess the bottom line is, which should I use as an answer on the CPA exam? Does anyone know what the actual difference is or have any insight into this? I am taking audit tomorrow and would hate to lose points this way.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

AU-C are the clarified Auditing Standards. According to the AICPA, the “-C” is being used to differentiate between the old and new standards. As of 2014 for the test I was taught that you should just use the AU-C, as those are the current standards and the old AU will soon be vacated out of the codification but not in time to account for the test.

I'll just say that what I thought would be there was not there, but that I didn't have to choose between one or the other (AU vs. AU-C) anyway. There was only one option. So don't waste efforts thinking about that.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

As a heads up, my auditing exam still listed both AU-C and AU and I took mine on the 1st of Feb this year. The AU-C as per the AICPA should be converted to the AU by 2014 (and the old AU should be gone), but the test is a bit behind so it will still list the AU-C.

That's weird– your AL had both the AU and AU-C available for your research? Mine only had one of them, so I didn't have to choose one or the other.
