I didn't even realize there was an election until this week. When I am studying I only watch recorded shows here and there and I skip all commercials. I don't listen to radio commercials because I almost always have my 3 girls in the car with me and they want to talk all the time. I don't really know that many people that talk about politics. SO when I realized there was an election I didn't feel like I could make an educated decision because I didn't have time to research the candidates. I am mad at myself because I very much appreciate the right to vote and feel like everyone should, but I don't think decisions should be made lightly and people should do their homework on the issues before they run to the polls. Voting solely based on party affiliation is ignorant nowadays because there seems to be less and less concrete lines between conservatives and liberals across the board and I am a registered independent.

An hour and 15 minutes? lol – not gonna happen. I'm lucky to find twenty minutes of “free time” these days.

I could find an hour and fifteen minutes to actually vote, but it takes more time than that to look into the candidates and what they are about. Unfortunately the little spare time I have this week has been consumed by close out at work, my children, and my studies. I will be more prepared for the next election, but this one slipped right by me.

Every single election. With mail-in ballots and early voting in most places, your excuses are invalid.

Absolutely ever election, no excuses! We received our mail-in ballots and my fiancée and I sat down for 2 hours to review all of the candidates, amendments, etc. I live in Colorado, this election was super important for us and I didn't want to miss out. I think being a woman also gives me extra incentive to vote because less than 100 years ago, we couldn't participate.

anybody can find the time to vote. Anybody. I know some of us work 50+ hours, have kids, have other commitments to meet.

Bottom line is if you can find the time to read and post here, you can find the time to vote 😉

Not to start a big debate, but my “excuses” were not posted so you could judge whether they were valid. They are facts about my life at the time, of which you know very little about. The OP asked for an honest answer and that is what he got. He, nor I, asked for your judgement on what we did or didn't do. You voted and that is awesome, but don't make statements that are confrontational simply to prove you are a better citizen or person than those that may not have voted, whatever their reasons may be.

I would like to comment on the no time issue and I am not trying to start a debate: We all have a civic duty to take the time to vote. It is a privilege and should not be discounted due to some test. As CPA's and future CPA, we need to be involved in the issues that surround our country as accounting may certainly have an impact due to future legislation.

I always vote. My polling place is only a couple of blocks from my house and it is never busy. I was in and out of there in about 5 minutes yesterday.

I agree with it being a priveledge. I also agree that everyone has time to vote, but I still don't think people should vote without knowing the issues and the candidates. I know many people that vote and don't have a clue about the issues. That makes the voting process a little less meaningful and if I haven't done my homework I am not going to make a vote just to say I voted so people won't bash me for not voting. In this case I didn't do my homework for this election. It's not an excuse. It's not a mark against everything women have fought for. It's not a political stand. It's not an act of a horrible citizen. It was a choice I made because I was not prepared to make an educated decision.

I refuse to believe you can have time to post on this forum multiple times a week, but you can't fill out a mail-in ballot or find an early voting time that works for you. Complete and utter nonsense.

Everyone shoud vote, but I'm not going to bash people that don't. It's their choice and I can't control other people.
