BEC Exam Changes

Does anyone know how significant the changes, if any, were since 2013 to the BEC portion of the exam? I have Becker for 2013 but I’m worried maybe it’s outdated?? Can anyone advise if I can still use it? I would take BEC or Reg in first half of January 2015. Thanks to all!

    Stayingafloat,

I hope this helps you out. I have pasted each section with the title of each module and the corresponding number of questions for each module. The simulations (i.e., written communication) have a “1” next to them, but that's not correct. The written communications for each section is about 3 on average. The most WC in one section are 4. This isn't pretty, but it may give you an idea. Good luck!

Thanks @BEACPA. How does this help me regarding what CHANGES have been made since 2013? I want to know if I can still use my 2013 Becker Review. Thanks again.

To answer your question, I would crosswalk each section, title and number of MCQs from the 2014 version I provided with the sections, titles and number of MCQs in you 2013 edition. If you see a striking or even identical resemblance, i.e., they did not add a major topic like B6-T4 Financial Risk Mgmt consisting of 30 MCQs then you should be okay. I have noticed that Becker makes only minor changes such as adding a question here and there. However, they'll convince you that you need to buy the latest edition because their in the business to make money. They told me that my 2013 FAR was out of date and if I didn't buy 2014 that I was taking a chance of not passing. I stuck with my 2013 edition and passed. The choice is ultimately yours. I wish I could be of more assistance. But I don't have a 2013 book to compare it to. Do you qualify for the Becker guarantee? If so, it's significantly prorated. Also, you should be able to go to their website (or if you downloaded it to your computer) and click on AICPA Newly Released Questions. This and your 2013 book should work. How I just remembered, I have the Wiley 2013 edition and it's the same as the Becker 2014 edition. At least I haven't seen any differences with exception of some of the questions they ask.

@Staying There's only one change to BEC in 2015 which is the inclusion of the Dodd Frank Act. Everything else is the same

Thanks so much @BEACPA and @rachel525!

Yes, I feel the exact same way about Becker. It costs so much money, money I don't have right now to plop down once again! I never took BEC yet, got a 73 on Reg twice in 2 months a year ago(I can't begin to explain how I felt)! I am trying to decide what to take first right now.

I lost credit for AUD already but I know I'll pass with study. Reg is technically the part I find easiest after AUD but I have never yet completed the exam. I get bogged down on the first 3 testlets and can't finish the 4th! I find it hard to move on when I feel another 20 seconds will give me the SURE answer. I think the problem becomes when 20 seconds becomes a minute or more. I got a 73 twice last year but really I got a 90+ on the first 3 testlets if you ask me.

BOTTOM LINE: Does anyone know if I can still use 2013 for Aud and Reg??
