taking BEC sometime in January. anybody else? just started studying using Becker. i am sure i will be ready if i take it in the beginning of January because i still have 4 weeks to study...but i am debating taking it towards the end only because i think i will get my score faster. i don't wanna wait 2 months to know!! plus i could possibly resit for REG if i need to at the end of january or in feb since my NTS expires in march....

AUD - 84; REG 11/30; BEC - 1/2010; FARE - after tax season!
yeah i'm takin it on Jan 20th..same i'm using Becker too so hopefully, i was thinkin to take it in the begining of Jan but then there's x-mas and new year and my bday's this month so i delayed to like mid. jan..
happy early birthday emes! my birthday was yesterday (dec 3) ! very true, though, with christmas and new years eve...i have to be honest with myself. i will probably get 0 studying done! i study at my university where i graduated from and the library closes dec. 24 and doesn't reopen until jan. 6! so i gotta figure something else out!
taking it on the 13th........using becker....its going to be my first exam(dont know what to expect)........btw are you guys going to be using the final revew??....i just received it yesterday......dont know how much time to allocate for it.....??.....
I'm taking it Jan 4th.. probably a bad idea considering I'll be traveling for Christmas through New Years, but I'm hoping for the best. I'm also using Becker- chapters 1 and 2 were easy, but I'm working on chapter 3 now and it's pretty difficult and a lot of memorization. Overall, I just finished taking FAR a couple weeks ago so nothing can really seem as bad as that. Vishvesh- I'm not taking the final review because I didn't want to pay for it, but let us know if it helps and good luck on your first time through studying!
vishvesh - i did not order the final review material either. i figured the regular becker material with all the MCQ, final exam and progress testing it should be enough for 90 multiple choice.
ihavecpaocd - i took BEC for the first time in July with little studying...i did not have many economics questions - mostly IT and cost accounting. but every exam is different. good luck studying!
hey hey....yup...will keep u guys posted on the final review package.......planning to go over it in two weeks........i actually bought it because i read in the forum that one of the members felt it was a good review after doing the final exams(which i hear is brutal)..............its like a summary by olinto......lets see......
Mponi123.....how were the IT questions in your exam??...i mean where the becker material enough.....the reason i am asking is that there are 112 questions in the software and its like for 25% of the grade...??...
hey vishvesh - the first time i took BEC i did not really study for it at all. i think i only made it half way through chapter 4 without any review. but i thought my IT questions were difficult especially since i have NO IT background and find it extremely difficult to understand. but i know IT is a big chunk on the exam and i must have had the highest possible % on mine!!
since i actually plan on studying this time i am thinking that becker will be enough for BEC since they give a lot of different questions and the actual BEC exam only being 90 MCQ!
I am taking my REG exam in Feb. I signed up for Becker online course which starts on Jan 4th and got my materials last week...anybody taking online class?!!
I got the Whiley BEC book to supplement my Becker books and some of the information and questions in the Whiley BEC book aren't covered in the Becker book? Are these questions and material not important....is that why Becker leaves out the material?
padsab, I took all my Becker classes online. I'm about to finish my third one this week. The last one, I have have to go drive to campus (45 min one way :() because they did not offer it online at this time and I need to be done with this process.
I'm taking BEC on Jan. 5th. This is my first part and I'm more than nervous. There is just sooooo much material in BEC! I'm using Becker and just finishing up the last of my lectures. I also have the Final Review but haven't touched it yet.
How is the time value of money tested? Do they give you a calculator function similar to a TI-34 BA II+ or do they just give you the number that would be founded in the tables?
Connie, if you think BEC has a lot of information wait for FAR :p
You will do fine
Toddie00,
I know! It's a challenge to get into a good study routine. I got my bachelor's degree in 1990, my MBA in 1999, so it's been a while since I've had to buckle down with studying! Add 3 kids to the equation and it's crazy. I know I'll get there though.
CONGRATULATIONS ON PASSING!!!! Time for you to celebrate!
Now that I am slowly getting over my 73 on BEC. I think it would have hurt less if I had received a 37. I am planning on retaking it in early January. I used Becker for the first test, but I feel like I may need a little more for the next exam just to make sure I get it done. Any thoughts on using the Wiley book or the Yaeger exam cram?
I also failed BEC (70), but started studying FAR 3 weeks ago before I got my results. I am wondering if I should continue studying FAR and take Business after FAR?
what are your thoughts?
Thanks
faf1978, I would keep on FAR to keep the momentum going. You can always go back to BEC but passing FAR would be a big relief!!
Does anyone know how much time I should allow for Becker's BEC Final Review?
Hey connieCPAin2010.......well regarding the review pack.......i have kept 3 days for it.......they recommend around 8-10 hours......so depending on the time you can spend on it.........
I am going absolutely crazy with this studying. After taking FAR in November (still anxious to get my score), I thought BEC would be cake. I guess I was wrong because I am doing very poorly on the practice questions. I am so burnt out from studying because I had been studying since May to take REG and FAR last window. Now I have BEC scheduled for Jan 4th and my lack of concentration and motivation is really making me think it is not possible. How does everyone keep concentrated?!?!
ihavecpaocd, when I feel really burned out and can't take another day, I just give myself a 3 day break and I don't even look at the stuff. I actually cook a meal for a change, get some shopping done, other than grocery, have coffee with a friend, etc. That helps me recharge and go back at it with more "enthusiasm."
i have only gotten through chapter 1 of BEC....i took REG on 11/30 and i have been waiting for my results to be released!! i cannot concentrate at all. plus with christmas and new years on the way. forget it. hopefully if by some miracle i passed REG i can push off BEC till feb. because my NTS doesn't expire until March! if not, i wanna sit for BEC asap and wait for those results..then reschedule for REG and possibly BEC again. blaaah
hey ihavecpaocd....yeh BEC is quite deceptive.....the material looks easy.....but its a lot of memorization and attention to detail............
funny thing....i was talking about this to one of the instructors in the live classes of becker and he told me BEC has one of the lowest pass rates.....so yeh....kinda of freaked out about it!!
gud luck studying....
I started studying BEC with a Wiley book and found it very detailed. Then, I picked up Becker software which I thought was better only because I could relate questions to answers and topical material much quicker than using the Wiley book. I liked that Becker had updates to their software and content located on their website. With Becker, I started with the Final Exam questions first, which gave me an idea of what topics I would need to spend time with the most. After, I watched a lecture and did its related multiple choice questions (except for supplemental questions, I left these for the end), read over and rewatched difficult topics and made note cards, and then did supplemental questions. Anytime I worked a set of multiple choice questions, I reworked the entire section until I got perfect score. While I worked full time, it took me about 3 weeks of on-and-off studying with the Wiley book plus 2½ weeks of serious cramming with Becker and I passed on the first try with a 78. Good luck!
Zena... I think you have the right idea. Sometimes your mind needs to be refreshed before it can learn anything new. I try to build in days for that into my budgeted time. If I know there is a family member's birthday or office get together coming up, I'll go and do my best not to feel guilty about not studying (I still do though...).
Jaywalk- Interesting that you started with the Final Exam questions to see where you wanted to focus your time, then went to the lectures etc. Not sure I could do that, but sounds like it worked well for you! Congrats on the pass.
I know I was spending alot of time on Economics, then I realized it was a low % of questions, so I made myself move along. I was really getting discouraged, but feel much better now that I'm through all the lectures and questions. Will tackle supplemental questions next.
I'm planning on starting the Final Review after Christmas, and sitting for the exam on Jan. 5th.
found out my REG score yesterday and i passed!! cannot believe how well i did considering i walked outta that testing center thinking i failed! now on to BEC...which i might just push off till feb. i haven't decided yet!
Congrats MPoni!!.....you killed the exam!!...
i know it does not fit here but..any pointers on tackling reg??......
