BEC Tomorrow and I'm not ready :/

Well, I certainly don’t feel ready.

This is the third test I’m taking, and I have FAR on July 16th.

I have took AUD/REG in may.

I didn’t get to make as many flashcards/review them as I did for my first two tests due to having a few family events to attend recently and a bit of burnout ><

I have gone through most of the MCQ once, and some of it twice.

I feel like Economics, Corp Governance, and IT are all somewhat easier, while Cogs/Financial management seem much scarier.

Anyone have any tips for the last study day? I’m about to do a practice test or two, and then try to skim the top of everything. I feel like I have an understanding of Fin/Cost, but I still make mistakes and get things wrong mixing things up ><

I didn’t feel this unprepared for my other tests and I’m wondering if anyone has any last minute tips/focus/cram session thoughts?

BEC feels so random and easy at times, and random and really difficult at times, but definitely random.

I haven’t touched the Written communications – I was going to review format and some topics today but my writing has always been above average and I heard this was mostly grammar/format/being able to communicate rather than content competence – am I gravely mistaken for that?

    BLAH!

Go through the formulas one last time and re-read the IT stuff and COSO stuff.

I feel the same way. There's not a lot of cohesion between topics, and as I'm getting close to finishing everything the first time through, I'm not entirely sure what I need to focus on for review. There are some topics that were just insanely easy (B3 / B5), some that aren't too difficult but have a ton of content (B1 / B4), and a little bit of stuff that I just don't really like — looking at you, variance analysis. What's most important?

I've heard similar things about the writing portion. Get those intro sentences, rephrase the topic, talk about things that are tangentially related to the topic, and conclude. It seems like grammar and structure and flow is more important than technical ability from what I've read.

That said, you have great scores on the other two sections. Statistically speaking, it's really unlikely for you to fail the most-often passed exam based on your past results.

JamesBJames – seriously, don't ignore chapters 1 & 4. They are super important! And the same goes for you – you have great scores on FAR and AUD so I'm sure you will doing well on this one as well!

I don't have becker so I don't know what you mean by B1-B4, I'm guessing those are chapters.

    Thanks for the advice.

I'm doing a practice exam right now, I feel pretty good about it so far….I guess I'll post back with results….

Does anyone have any tips on memorizing these finance formulas?

I feel like i could spend a long time memorizing how to get a stock price with certain info, and then not even get a question related to it on the test….or maybe that's just my wishful thinking talking….

    Everything seems so random ><

For doing all the classes, most of the MCQ, and some flashcard review….I have this horrible “I haven't learned anything” feeling.

I'd agree with going over as many formulas as you can and also look through the IT section at least one more time. I haven't used Bisk so I'm not sure how their MCQs are in relation to the Wiley Test Bank, but most of the cost accounting and financial management/capital budgeting MCQs on there were a lot more complicated and difficult than they needed to be to prepare for the exam. I didn't go over IT all that much because I thought it looked straight forward and I'm fairly certain that's why I barely managed a pass on BEC.

    Good luck!

I took BEC last quarter and let me emphasize, COSO!! Also, someone had sent me some questions from Lambers, which I found helpful, especially for cost accounting. There is probably no need to practice for the writing portion, just repeat the question in the intro, and do it again in the end. Make sure that it flows and is grammatically correct. I did not repeat the questions in my Memo's and ended up passing, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Thanks for the tips. I scored an 89% on a bisk practice exam, so I'll try another and do some review.

As for COSO – What exactly do you mean? Off the top of my head I think — Control environment, Risk assessment, Info and communicate, control activities, Monitoring. I have a fairly decent understanding of those areas…. – and it differs from ERM in that ERM cosiders risk assessment in 3 categories – strategy, risk appetite and…something else….? …I guess I'll look through those MCQ again – Thanks for the tip.

My practice test seemed really easy ><

I failed my 2nd Becker practice exam today with a 65. Got a 78 on the first one and tend to score in the 90-100% range when I do 24 question progress tests. I thought I was in decent shape until that 2nd practice test today… considering my exam is in 2 days I'm feeling similar to OP here. (except I've been studying longer and yet still feel discouraged lol)

That's how it was for me right before AUD, Cody. It really killed my confidence. So I stopped doing MCQs and just focused on learning the material. It all worked out okay. You know the info. Don't let percentages on tests pull your focus.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Ya know I think it went okay. Sorry for the late response I had to turn my brain off for a few days before getting back to FAR.

I was surprised, I got 4 super easy questions on ratios, and like every other exam I was surprised how much of what I studied wasn't on the test. It seems like it tested me multiple times on the same topics.

Never know til you get the score, but I didn't feel too bad about it- I wish I would've hit COSO a little more in depth but I could narrow most harder ones down to two choices.

I felt like I got lucky and barely got any financially any annoying finance topics.

Hopefully it worked out, ill update upon score release. Thanks for the help!

Now time to review FAR in 9 days. Oh boy. I've seen all the lectures but… It's a beast and I haven't touched the topics in a few weeks

@VLAKMIR You are taking FAR 2 weeks after BEC? I'm very impressed! Were you studying BEC and FAR at the same time?

Well, I was in a review course where my class went to school to watch lectures everyday.

I did all the BEC lectures, then the FAR lectures, then went back to study for BEC for about 10 days and took the test.

Now I'm back to studying for FAR for the next 10 days. BEC/FAR lectures went from June 2- 20th on weekdays.

I did MCQ daily as well, so I've at least done about 30% of each FAR chapter (20 chapters) – some 50-80% complete. But now I'm going back to it and having to spend time reviewing……

I dunno…Test is on the 16th…..it's been very difficult to go back to FAR. I guess I'm getting through it though :/

I'm hoping I have enough time. I'm studying about 5 hours a day or so…might have to step that up a bit. Not sure if about 50 hours is going to be enough….there's a lot in FAR…..

Right now I'm trying to sprint through MCQ and write things down so by the time I have only 1 or 2 days left I can have a large base of flashcards and notes to review…

FAR feels especially bleh in my head right now. I've seen it all but haven't seen or thought about it in weeks.
