is it worth taking Becker live classes for FAR? ive taken FAR twice and used cpaexcel/wiley test bank to study but fallen short a few points. the classes are in january for like 4 hours after work 2x a week for about a month. should i just self study with ninja materials or are the live classes worth the 1000 bucks?

    thanks

Unless you are incredibly undiciplined and can't force yourself to buckle down study, the live classes are worthless. They mirror the video lectures 100%, and usually the instructors either don't have time for your questions, or don't know how to answer you.

That's at least been my experience.

I should add that I did the live classes for all of my first score attempts.

I took the live lectures through Becker for FAR and I did not pass. I am using the online lectures through Becker for AUD right now and I find that the online lectured are more structured, and all the questions in the book come with an explanation for the correct answer. I can't say the same for the live lectures. Plus, after working all day, I start to lose focus during the live lectures around 8pm. I would go for the online lectures if I were you.

    FAR - 60 (11/25/14) 61 (1/6/16) 75 (4/19/16)
    AUD - 75 (1/6/15)
    BEC - 71 (4/7/15) 77 (7/2/15)
    REG - 62 (8/28/15) 71 (11/2/15) 84 (2/12/16)

Here is the best advice I can give. I went to a live final review class in Dallas on North Central Expressway. The class is held on Saturday and goes from 8am to close to midnight. It is long and grueling. BUT IT IS WORTH EVERY MINUTE. The instructor used to have her own review class until Becker bought her out but she still gives you all the information from Becker and her personal review course. I drove 6 hours one way to get to it. There were people that flew in from as far as DC just for this class. If you attend the entire thing AND follow her instructions you will pass. I went from a 68 to an 83 in AUD!

She does these reviews for every section except REG. I went to all of them!

    FAR – 71, 75

    REG – 75

    BEC – 71, 81

    AUD – 56, 65, 70, 68, 83

When I started studying for FAR I went to Becker's live classes. What other students told me and what I gathered was that they're only helpful if you have a good instructor. My instructor basically read out words to highlight with absolutely no explanation. So, it was pretty much useless for me. I ended up just watching the video lectures and moving at my own pace.

So maybe ask Becker if you could attend one of the classes to meet the instructor and try it out. I don't know if they'll let you but it's worth a shot.

    Good luck!

I started studying BEC and attended one class, it did not help me at all. I honestly think it was a waste of time.. I used to use the live courses but with self study you can go on your own pace and they explain it in greater detail in the course video (for becker)
