Becker vs Actual Exam

Just wondering, how is the FAR exam compared to the questions from Becker. Very nervous / scared of failing

How much of the exam is computational vs theory? I’ve heard different responses. Some say equal, some say one is more than the other.

    Feeling very discouraged.

    Thanks.

Yea, I have pretty much blocked out the FAR exam but I do remember a little. Not sure if this will help but on my particular exam for the simulations Becker did not come anywhere close. The multiple choice was pretty much the same but the simulations were much harder. What I was asked to do was nothing like what Becker asked simulation-wise. I would say study journal entries and know how to do the harder ones. Other than that I really don't remember anything else. I forget everything as soon as I walk out of that room.

I was just about to post about AUD. How does it compare with Becker? My exam is Jan 18th. I'm doing pretty well on the Becker homework but I'm scared the exam will be way harder.

    Good luck!!

I failed AUD 2X now, but not because of the MCQ. Becker's MCQ were actually harder IMO than the real exam, but AUD MCQ were not bad at all. (I think I failed the second time bc I underestimated the exam and thought I'd pass automatically)

I'm retaking AUD a week after FAR. Really not bad, focus on A4 bc I think that was the toughest one (not even close to anything in FAR though)

I just took a 30 question progress test and scored a 67%. (20/30) Though I feel it doesn't tell the true story because I don't know pensions well and got 75% on ch 6.

I guess I;ll have to bust my ass tues-thurs until my exam Fri, while I'm taking off from work. LIBRARY TIME

GL on AUD, may we both pass it this window (Far for me too lol)

From what i have experienced Becker's MCQs have all been harder then on the actual exam. I usually even have a couple MCQs from Becker's material on my exams, so thats nice. Sims are alot more in depth then Becker and that is what makes them “harder”. If you truly understand the concepts underlining each of Becker's sims especially for FAR you should do alright. Now that is not to say that you will get every single one 100% right, but you should be able to get enough points to be comparable in sims and thats all that matters IMO.

For AUD Becker does a really good job on explaining reports and the differences. When it comes to the exam just read each question carefully because one word makes a huge difference. When it comes to the sims for AUD make sure you use AL, he is your friend. You should be able to look up most of the answers word for word on the sims.

My first FAR testlet was mostly theory, but the 2nd one was VERY computation-heavy – much like Becker MCQ's. The 3rd one had a fair number of computation questions, but not as many as the 2nd.

My simulations weren't exactly “hard” from a computation standpoint but were completely different than what I had seen in Becker and Wiley. The authoritative literature wasn't any help, except for the research question.

I think Becker practice are harder then real from.

Is the actual FAR exam more computation or theory?

I hope you pass both! I'm putting off retaking FAR until after tax season. I won't have any time to study. I can't believe you are taking them so close together! I really hope you pass both.

@Mrwills, I've never used the authoritative literature for anything except the question that you have to use it for. I definitely need to keep that in mind. I thought about it, but I just assumed you wouldn't really be able to find what you needed. So thanks for the tip. The reason I thought the FAR simulations were hard was because almost all of my questions were on the same thing and it was something I knew how to do the basics (Becker's questions) but it was more in depth and I obviously didn't know it well enough. Lesson learned!

@DavidB, I want to be a CPA by the end of 2013 too!!

    Good luck to everyone!
