Becker vs Yaeger for REG

Hi. I have used Yaeger for FIN and BEC and Becker for AUD (and now REG).

I’d like to get a better understanding of how Yaeger would teach REG, as Becker only seems asks students to highlight/learn the basics. When I used Yaeger for FIN and BEC, the instructors would literally read the entire Wiley book in the lectures and ask students to learn the contents of most of the lengthy chapters. Does Yaeger teach REG the same way? In other words, does Yaeger tell students to know all the details not highlighted in Becker?

    Thanks,

    Jay

Um…I can't compare to Becker but I used Yeagar for REG (I didn't do it justice) and it's Phil the entire course. Very similar teaching method as FAR.

    FAR - 87 2/18/14
    AUD - 84 4/2/14
    REG - 87 7/23/14
    BEC - 78 8/26/14

I'm finally an *official* CPA - TX

Yaeger is fine for every section of the exam except for REG. I've never used Becker so I can't compare, but REG with Yaeger left a lot to be desired.

    FAR - 75
    AUD - 72; 87
    REG - 64; 74; 84
    BEC - 88

    Done!!

Yeah, I disliked Yaeger for REG, I think it's Phil's teaching style. He jumped around a lot. On the other hand, AUD was great (Gary). Gary was my favorite professor with Yaeger.

Becker is fine, I used it for REG (waiting for my score). Yes, they will say highlight this, highlight that, but it means they are telling you which are very important (since their outline is very detailed). In the end, they tell you to go back to the outline (textbook) and read the entire chapter. I also have CPAexcel reviewer, but did not like it for REG since CPAexcel's bite size lectures seemed too “summarized” for me.

    FAR - 89 Dec 2013 (CPAExcel)
    AUD - 89 Feb 2014 (CPAExcel)
    BEC - 83 Aug 2014 (Becker)
    REG - 85 Oct 2014 (Becker)

I see. I got a taste of Phil and Cindy's teaching styles from using Yaeger for BEC and FAR. Unlike Phil, Cindy would basically read through the Wiley book and ask students to memorize everything.

Here, you mentioned that it's Phil who teaches REG. So, he doesn't ask you to memorize everything in the Wiley book? The reason I am asking is because I am wondering how much students have to remember for the REG exam. I used Becker and almost passed having read nothing more than what they told us to highlight. My tax class in college also didn't involve much memorization; no more than what Becker asked students to highlight.

    Thanks,

    Jay
