Been Slacking. Is FAR still possible by August 30th

So the last week I’ve been a total slacker. I am using Becker. I have completed all chapter lectures and MCs one time. At this point I have completed half the SIMS. I bought the Becker Final Review, but I’m not sure I’ll get to it. I do not work. I have nothing to do until August 30th except study. School starts for me in a few weeks but I only have one night class on Thursdays. I do have some BAP officer commitments coming up, but nothing that will take too much time.

Question: With exactly 18 days until I test, what should I do to make sure I can pass?

My plan is to try to do the MCs 2 more times, complete the practice tests, rewrite the Becker notecards, and do the Final Review. Is this possible, or even a good idea? By now I was planning on being through all MCs twice, but like I said I’ve been a slacker. I kinda got burned out studying so much and now that I’m getting close to the test and the fear factor is definitely coming into play. I’m not sure if I should bang out a bunch of progress tests or what.

I don’t want to give up yet, and I really don’t want to have to take any part more than once. Any suggestions are welcome.

    thanks

We have the same dates. Im averaging about 55% of my ninja MCQ's and I haven't even started on sims yet. I have been doing about 150 MCQ's a day. I was able to get 2 weeks off from my job. Any advice would be help at this point.

18 days and you're done with all the material?

I finished my last section 7 days before the test, all lectures and all MCQs. that's how I planned it and 7 days gave me plenty of time to do lots of MCQs. I'm currently on day 1 of the 7 days leading up to AUD, in fact.

so yeah, I think you should be okay…

With that much time, I'd heavily review your weak areas and do lots of MCQs. Possibly do a cram course.

The issue is I kinda suck at MC tests. I just took a progress test for just a few chapters and got a 57%. Yikes. I guess all I can do is keep at it and see what happens on August 30th.

FAR is tough because there is so much material. Jeff himself says that studying longer than 8 weeks is counter-productive because there is a great deal of short-term memory involved in studying for and passing the exam. When I got to my last week before FAR, I was through all of the material, but I couldn't remember any of the crap from the first half of the course. I did a cram the two days before the test and passed.

I don't buy the whole “I suck at tests / I'm a good test taker” crap. We either know the material or we don't. I didn't pass the FAR exam because I'm a good test taker, I passed the FAR exam because I busted my ass to prepare for it. If you do the same, so will you.

Ya, I was just freaking out because the score was so low and didn't know what to think. With the MCs I usually get it down to a few answers and choose the wrong one. Thats why I say I suck at MC tests. But your totally right, there is no such thing as being a good or bad test taker. Its about knowing or not knowing the material. There is so much on the FAR that I sometimes get things confused. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I kinda forgot all that earlier stuff too, so its nice to hear that someone else had that issue but fought through it and passed the exam. With the amount of time I have left, I think constant focus and diligence will pay off. Or at least I hope it will.

What do you mean by cram session? I know what that means to me, but just curious what your take on it is (since you actually passed)

Roger offers a cram course for FAR (about 16-17 hours of lectures). I believe other courses do as well. Basically, you learn everything you studied over 2 months, in two days. It sucks, but it works.

OK. I bought the Becker Final Review course, so I already am planning on doing it. Thanks for clarifying. I thought maybe you had your own cram method–ninja style. I appreciate your comments, for sure.
