You know what, I took AUD last year, and I've totally forgotten the various opinions already. I've read the book 3x, from unqualified updated to unmodified, very confusing and lots of stuff to comprehend.
One thing I can say about the Becker's outline of 6 chapters, they were NOT well organized. I think the book should concentrate more in auditing (+examination) on the first few chapters before mixing up the review and compilation topics. That way, remembering and not easily getting tripped up with tricky exceptions of the exceptions is achievable.
With various reports, make your own guides or mnemonics. What is important to these different reports is the contents, the substance, not necessarily in order. I don't think the order of paragraphs matters. The most frequently asked questions are what is there and what is not there.
Ignore the mnemonic especially MR FIRSALA, or better yet avoid him. I found out that guy is a terrorist, belonging to Al Qaeda. Yikes!

There is a lecture outline button on the top right hand side of the Becker software. You can use these outlines in the same manner that ninja users use ninja notes. You should learn everything on these sheets of paper and refer to the book when the outline is to summarized to understand. When using any review course it is my personal opinion that you want to get to the multiple choice questions as soon as possible and then start doing them frequently.
I personally feel that the most effective way to use Becker is to read one sub section of a chapter and immediately do the related multiple choice questions. I am moving away from the “master the material before approaching the questions” mentality. Instead read carefully at a speed that allows you to understand the information, and then immediately do the multiple choice questions. Don't waste time taking extensive notes or flashcards, because 60% of this material is for the people who want to score in the 90's. Becker, and other programs for that matter, give you way more information that is needed to pass these exams. You should be spending about 75% of your time on multiple choice questions, simulations, and the outline.
With this approach it's likely that you will begin with a low % of right answers, so it is important to think of the multiple choice questions as a teaching resource and not a testing resource. This means that you want to spend as much time reviewing the answer explanation as reading and answering the question. Before your exam you should do all Becker questions at least twice, and do flagged questions until there is no way you could get them wrong. Once you are scoring 90% on the becker questions you should move to supplement questions like Wiley. You increase your chances of passing by maximizing the amount of time spent on the material necessary to answer the questions; everything else will be less than 10% of your exam. This is the 10% of the exam you make an educated guess on. If you do every Becker and Wiley question twice, with a focused mind, I can almost guarantee a passing score.
I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"
