Does anyone have any experience/knowledge about referrals to different cities for Big 4 internships?

I am a senior at a college in South Carolina but am from New Jersey (hoping to work in NYC). I got first round interviews with three Big 4 firms (one doesn’t recruit from my school) and so far two of the firms told me they were going to refer me to the NYC office after asking if I didn’t want an office visit to Greenville, South Carolina. Anyone know of any success stories for interns begin recruited to different cities or did I just screw myself over by going to school in the South? Thanks!

Luckily big4 is all over the map and as far as my experience goes they don't discriminate in terms of location. Friends from my school in VA got internships (and full-time offers) in LA, NY, Philly, etc. There is a supply-demand factor working in the background but if you do well in the first round I think you'll be fine.

I'm from VA and got a transfer up to a big4 in NY after an internship in VA (bc of personal reasons). Although that's not a happy route for the local office, if you perform and have a good reason to transfer they should vouch for you. This is a long way around and a gamble as well so I hope you get your interviews with ny. Goodluck!
