How should we dress for new hire training when they’re sending you away to another state? I am guessing I don’t need to wear a suit everyday, however more like business casual (no jeans of course).

Any other POSITIVE advice/tips about the training for 2 weeks and starting at a Big4 in HI is appreciated.

I definitely wish I was one of those people who got all 4 exams done in 4 months, but unfortunately LIFE (being a newlywed, stress, adjusting to newlywed life and cpa exam study life, as well as starting a job with a Big4 which I am very happy about) got in the way, just happy that I am passing period!!

Business casual for sure. They keep you in conference rooms pretty much all day, then usually some event at night. Have fun!!

As I currently sit in training, business casual. Don't be that one guy who wears a suit everyday.

Another thing to watch out for is the definition of business casual. Back when I worked for the government, the definition of business casual was very loose. Our branch manager would often show up to work in a golf polo.

When I went the Big 4 route, I came in during the first week wearing the same attire I used to wear in government, and got reprimanded by HR for it. That got me into the habit of wearing expensive, ironed button down shirts and freshly shined shoes even when I was donning a “business casual” look.

Now I work for a software company, and I am probably one of the most overdressed people in the office usually.

When I was Big 4 typical guys' business casual was button down shirt, dress pants, nice shoes. Ties only when necessary. Ladies had a bit more leeway – nice blouse/sweater, dress pants or skirt, business appropriate dresses.

Our trainings were always business casual. They were also always in hotels that seemed determined to turn us all into icicles. Trainings were always freezing so if you get cold easily, be prepared with a sweater or jacket!

oops another question, should I bring my own laptop or maybe just an Ipad, or do they provide those for you there? or should I just bring a legal pad in a business portfolio to take notes or whatever?

I'm not big4, but will start with a regional firm this fall. I've been to training for internships before and I brought my own computer just to use in the room for myself. But they gave me a work computer when I arrived. Although, I would say it's probably a good idea to bring a notepad to take notes. Good luck!!!
