BLAW is Bringing me Down

I have seen plenty of threads on this, but wanted to see some more recent reactions.

How do the REG takers feel about BLAW. Becker covers so much material. I’m getting high 80s to mid 90s on 30 pt progress tests. But thats because they are almost all Tax questions. I feel pretty good about the TAX except for some obscure trust/estate stuff. BLAW really brings me down. I did way worse when I redid the homework for these topics(65-80) than for TAX (80-95). It’s just so much to absorb. I’m testing Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I’m coming off a recent AUD fail and would love to have a bounce back test.

With 5 days to go what would you do? (I can put about 40 hours in the next 5 days)

Focus on those minute tax details in the hopes of nailing the SIMS or just spend time on BLAW and keep running overall progress tests?

    Do longer Progress tests?

Learn to stop worrying and love the bomb?

Any thoughts, suggestions, comments are appreciated.

I hear you! I'm comfortable with tax but all the contracts and agency stuff is killing me. I test next Saturday so I'm planning to leave all the Blaw stuff until a few days before the exam so that way it's fresh. I really don't know what else to do other than read the book and do mcq.

First, I would do progress tests only on the Business Law sections only. This will give you a more representative indication on how well you are doing in the BLAW.

Also, one thing that helped me in the REG section was to read all the questions I got wrong and then write notecards on the concepts. Repeating this process helps get it into your mind. I think 5 days is plenty of time to work with since you are doing excellent on the progress exams already!!! Just keep going and you'll make it!

    FAR - 82 (8/30/14)
    AUD - 95 (10/7/14)
    REG - 82 (11/7/14)
    BEC - 85 (11/26/14) - PEACE OUT!

Keep pushing through it. You passed FAR, you can pass REG.

and if I were in your shoes, from now till exam date, just keep doing MCQs on all REG material.

I can't remember the % amount of blaw covered on the exam per the COSO breakdown, but just keep in mind that since none of that is going to come from the 40% of SIMS, then it increases the chance of blaw in the MCQ. My suggestion would be to rewrite your notes or ninja notes for blaw and keep going through the MCQ for them. If you have flashcards for blaw that would be helpful as well. Don't stop quizzing on tax, but if blaw is your weak point then you need to push up the efforts on it. The last week is always when I focus heavily on my weak areas, but continue to quiz on my stronger areas so I don't lose the knowledge before test day.

I'm in the same boat only I have 3 days. Spent the majority of my review this week on tax and have about a 65% on the BLAW Ninja MCQ. I think I did over a thousand tax questions (approx 900 done prior to review) so that will be my goal for BLAW the next few days as well as write that portion of the ninja notes at least 3 times if not 4 before Monday. I'm so burnt out that I'm just ready for it to be over! Bring on the turkey!

Thanks for the comments and study suggestions. I'm about to start long day of Saturday study. Gonna grab this BLaw by the horns and hope to sort some of my issues with it out today and tomorrow. If I start to get angry I'm gonna take a tax progress quiz to make me feel better.

DoOver I'm in the exact same situation. I reward myself with Tax MCQ's. How sick is it that that has become a reward these days? Haha. Good luck! I'm testing Wednesday as well.

    REG - Passed
    BEC - Passed
    AUD - Passed
FAR - Passed!!!! I have my life back.

    @ Someday.

I know, totally sick right? I hit my first 100 ever on a Becker progress test today (30 MCs), but there were only 3 Blaw questions in it. The oddest pleasure of my life. Probably just a sign I need to change it up somehow, but I can't afford anymore materials. Good luck Wednesday. I'm got a 4:30 time slot. I can study all day and either be sharp or completely burnt.

Just took REG an hour ago and felt completely opposite.

I am talking about the real exams. Becker prepared me pretty well for BEC and I knew I could get a pass right after I walked out of the test center. REG is a different story to me. I felt like I failed the exam (but who knows, wait for the score releasing day to reveal the answer.)

As in Tax was worse than BLaw for how Becker made you feel going in?

Hahah DoOver. Great job on your 100%. 🙂 I take it around 11:00-11:30 (can't recall exactly) so I can get in some studying in the morning but not over-kill. Regretting not taking a day off work prior to the exam though.

    REG - Passed
    BEC - Passed
    AUD - Passed
FAR - Passed!!!! I have my life back.

    @ someday…

Well that stupid 100 was the kiss of death. Just been going down in flames on BLaw ever since. Now I'm getting questions wrong that I've already gotten right two times. The more I study, the worse I do, which is just fabulous. Arrogantly posting that score jinxed me and I'm pretty sure it will result in a low 70s score for REG, just in time for christmas. I can't wait.

Make sure you guys are putting enough emphasis on professional responsibilities/ethics– that was only 1 chapter in my Wiley book, but that material represents almost 20% of the REG test.

Then the true business law stuff together (all the chapters on contracts, UCC, agency, etc.) is roughly 20%.

Sometimes professional responsibilities ends up getting lumped in with business law as a total 40%, but if you look at it that way, you'll miss studying professional responsibilities adequately. It's important, so you really have to give it its due.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Just remember that there isn't BLaw on the simulations.
