    Hi Everyone,

I need help with passing the ethics exam. I got a 84, 88 and then 88. I have heard that when CalCPA sends you the email of the areas that you need to focus on that it is in the order of the questions you got wrong. If that is true, is it in relation to the Final Test or the Actual Test. If it is the Actual Test, they always rearrange the questions each attempt so do I copy and paste the test or can I print it out or is that even legal.

    Please Help!!

The email they send refers you to sections in the main booklet. I assume you ordered the PDF version. I believe most people control F on the PDF of final exam to find the questions due to the random order on the web. This is what I did. I kept all my real answers on the PDF of the final exam, then controlled F parts of the questions to quickly find my answer as I was going thorough the web exam.

    does this help you?

@little Thanks for the info. I understand that the “areas to focus on” refer to the overwhelming 290 page booklet, but the order of the area corresponds to the order of wrong question from what I heard.

For example, if the first section the email says Chap 4 rule 101-1 then I should find the first question that relates to that and assume I got that question wrong.

What I am unclear about is which questions does it refer to, the final exam that you work out of or the actual test in which they rearrange the questions in each attempt.

The email refers to the latest exam you submitted online.

From my experience, the areas to focus on did not correspond to the order of the questions from the exam that I submitted (with the rearranged question order) but maybe that was because I didn't find the answers in the proper sections. Maybe it was because with the questions being rearranged each time I lost track and just felt like breaking something. I'm not sure.

What helped me was printing out the sections from the pdf for the questions that I missed. Next, I examined the material for the questions I missed where I was directed to multiple sections. What I mean is one line of the response (i.e. one missed question) after failing could show two or three areas to focus on. If a single question had two or three sections to which I was directed, after reading those pages I would have a pretty solid idea of exactly which question I missed. Most of the time I missed the question because I didn't recognize the caveat to the rule that appeared on some other page. After those sections, I reviewed the questions missed that referred to only small parts of a single page. I had the same luck there. Knowing that I only needed another four points, I didn't waste my time on the areas that had many, many pages.

You're so close. Hang in there!

Hi, these two tips from a coworker helped me to pass that awful exam:

    1. Be aware of California-specific questions! The first time I took the exam I did not pay attention to this. If the question says “California” then look up your answer in that part of the pdf file, which if I recall is in the back.

    2. Make an Excel spreadsheet numbered 1 – 50. Write down your answers and write down where you found them – the page, section, paragraph – be as specific as possible. Then when you get that printout of your wrong answers your spreadsheet will help you find where you went wrong.

    >>What I am unclear about is which questions does it refer to, the final exam that you work out of or the actual test in which they rearrange the questions in each attempt. <<

As I understand it, both of those are the same test. I did not think they rearranged questions. I believed the test in the pdf file was the same test you took online. Maybe I'm wrong but the spreadsheet did help me find my wrong answers. Good luck! I really hated that exam. It should not be called “ethics” it should be called “independence” IMO. It tests on the AICPA definition of independence.

@little thanks. Was under the gun because of the new education requirements for California going into effect in 2014. Lol.

I'm finally done with this PETH Exam. It was really time consuming.

Now waiting for my BEC result, hopefully the last one.

Hi All – quick question please…I'm currently taking the “final exam” in the back of the 6,000,000 page pdf booklet. Does anyone know, is it the same questions that are on the website when I log in to take it electronically? Thanks a lot!

Sorry, let me rephrase, there's actually a 12 page “final exam” pdf you can download from the PETH site that seems like it's the legit final exam. Are they the same questions that are on the site when I log in to take it electronically? Thanks a million.

Hey, there are only 300+ pages 😉 and yes, questions will be the same, however, they won't be in the same order.
