Hey guys,

I just finished up taking the exam, and based on my calculations I am 3 units shy of the 20 unit accounting study requirement for licensure. I really dont want to have to wait until the Fall Semester (Sept-December) to take the class and then apply for licensure in 2015. I would really like to take the 3 units this summer and be done so I can apply for my license in the fall. I am maxed out on units at the only CC (foothill) I can find that still has a second summer session open for classes.

Does anyone know anyway I can take 3 units of accounting anywhere online before the Fall?

I took my additional credits through LSU distant learning. It was a learn at your own pace thing.

Studying with Wiley Review, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja Audio.

I graduated this past December and took 20 units worth of classes while studying for (and passing) REG and AUD over the past few months. Required maybe 5-10 hours of time commitment per week to the classes.

REG: 84 on 4/18/14

FAR: 90 on 8/8/14
BEC: 91 on 8/31/14

I'm interested in this topic too…..

I posted a question last night about recommendations for classes meeting the ethics requirement.

Looking for either a one credit hour or 4 credit hour ethics class. Do they exist?

To caliCPA25 – like koz124 suggested, I have considered the LSU distance learning classes too.

I have not taken any, but the flexibility of schedule keeps it a consideration if I ever need it.

Click on “college level courses” on the left

IMPORTANT NOTE: I was told that the transcript from LSU distance classes says “correspondence”. Some states will NOT accept “correspondence” courses, even if they DO accept “distance learning” courses

(go figure! – TX is an example of this)

So, verify with your state board that these classes will be accepted.

I heard from my campus advisor (I went to UC Berkeley) that the California CPA Board doesn't care if you retake a class that you have already taken at your university, so I took ACTG 1B (after petitioning Foothill to exempt me from ACTG 1A), Accounting for Small Business, and Introduction to E-business in my first quarter (it's quarter system) and then Quickbooks Accounting and Ethics in Accounting (both of which required 1B) in my second quarter.

And I'm sorry I forgot I only needed 13 additional units for the 150 (8 accounting related), which came out to 21 quarter units, 15 of which needed to be accounting related. It might be hard to get 20 semester units in such a short time with Foothill, although the Summer quarter hasn't started yet so you could at least chip away at it now if you act quickly. Not sure which kind of classes will still be open, though.
