California Ethics Test

This may have been asked on a previous message, and if so, I apologize, but can someone tell me how long does the PETH (California’s Ethics test) last? They say to prepare for 16 hours, but I’m reading their study material and it’s a lot to grasp.. Also, is it true that you lose your CPA credits, assuming you passed all 4 sections, if you don’t take the Ethics test?

Any input on these is really appreciated

    Will

I'm not sure how long you have to take the exam but I do know if you completed the 4 exams under the old Pathway (as I did), you will need to complete the ethics exam and all other requirements (ie experience, etc.) within a year from when you completed the final CPA exam.

    …or something like that.

Thanks for the prompt reply CPA4birthdaypresent. In my case, I have to go under the new pathway as I got my last passing score on February this year. That being said, did you purchase a final ethics test for California? Someone said they did on a separate thread, but haven't gotten any feedback from them. I only got the PDF with the 300 pages. Any input is really appreciated.

In CA you never lose your exams after passing them. Although once you pass Ethics, it is only valid for one year, so if you don't have your experience yet take the Ethics later to avoid having to take it twice. In regards to old pathway, CPA4birhday is correct.

I would find all the answers first before logging in and taking the exam. And that all depends on how quickly you find the answers. It took me longer than 16 hours, including multiple fails, but everyone is different. There should be also a smaller PDF with the questions. You may read it all or just control F. Control F helps, but does not make it easy!

    Hope this helped. Good luck!

Thank you so much littlenumberrobot. When you say that you “would find all the answers first before logging in and taking the exam.”, are you referring to the questions on the back of each chapter? I dont know where else to go to get practice questions. I read their website back and forth and only see the text version and the pdf version of the study material (290 pages) which i have.. I really appreciate your input on this.

Unless they have changed something in the last few months, there should be a smaller PDF with the actual exam questions. If you are not seeing it in your online courses/self study, just give them a call. They are very helpful. I took my exam in November 13 so it's possible something has been changed.

    Hi,

I just found this website and found out a lot of interesting discussion here. I will be licensed by California. I find that a lot of people are complaining about CA PETH.

My question is: do I allow to start the exam online and save it where I left and re-visit the website again to continue working on completion the exam? Or I have to keep on logging in and submit the answers at once?

Your reply and share of experiences are truly appreciated.

@frank1623 you cannot save your the exam and leave the web page. but you can print out the questions before you submit the exam.

Apparently much has changed with the Cal PETH exam, there is no practice exam which I have heard from little birdies that used to exist :/

    BEC-75 (1/14)
    AUD- 55(5/13), 62(4/14), 76 (8/14)
    FAR- 69(4/13), 70(7/13), 76 (2/14)
    REG- 67(11/13), 78(5/14)

Needed two more units(ugh!) Completed 6/15

It appears the questions are completely different with each ethics exam attempt. Meaning if you fail, and take it again, you get all NEW questions. Not a single question is the same.

Anyone else experience this? I was under the impression this did not used to be the case in CA.
