I received an email from Becker regarding Lean Six Sigma certification through Dartmouth, and the certification is of some interest to me.

I did some internet searching and see there are wide variances in the cost of these programs depending on the purveyor. This website https://goleansixsigma.com/ offers certain free training for certain levels and then charges for the actual certification for all levels.

As I see there are universities offering Lean certification, as well as many other institutions, are there accrediting bodies for Lean much like online universities of which you need to be cognizant of who the accrediting agency is or you could be paying for something that is completely worthless? If so, any recommendations on affordable programs that are accredited?

Personally I would not get a certificate through college because of the high tuition and they are not well recognized. Most people get training through jobs. There are two well recognized six sigma certificate organizations, IASSC and ASQ, you can buy materials for self study or attend their training sessions, then take the exam. I think some of the certificates request project experience.

Reading more about this it seems many institutions offering these accreditations are not the most reputable. I'm not really looking for accreditation but more so some exposure to the topic. Hopefully others on here can chime in here as well.

I'm not an expert but my gf is a green belt and about to start her black belt. Similar to what cleverfairy said, lean certifications are mainly learned at the specific company/ job. My gf's conpany has a strong leans culture therefore they certify their employees internally. Again I'm not an expert but that's what I've heard. I don't want to discount the college certification but most companies tend to respect their own certifications and not others.

If the lecturer were to be Peter Olinto, by all means pursue it with Becker. Otherwise, I'd forget about it!

I hear ya Amor. I used Becker to get me through the exam. Olinto was very good, and the others, not so much.
