Cancelling exam-

So I have been struggling to get through the FAR material and already postponed my exam once. Now my father died last week and I do not really feel up to pushing myself as hard as I’d need to to finish by then. I already have audit scheduled for November and am thinking I’m just going to skip FAR and move on to Audit. Then reschedule FAR for January or February. The other option is to put FAR off again and skip Audit, but I am actually out more money that way and I really don’t want to deal with FAR anymore right now.

Does anyone know if I need to do anything if I am planning to not take my exam? Do I just not show up?

I'm so sorry to hear that.

When does your NTS for both exams expire? Is there a policy regarding extentions because of your circumstances?

Thank you. My nts expires this year. I paid for all four in June or July so that I had to do them all this year. It would be nice to get something back but I don't think that is their policy. It seems like a lot of work anyway. I'm sick of explaining this over and over to people.

Sorry on the death on your father. I'm sure studying is the last thing on your mind right now. NTS does offer an extension for extenuating circumstances. I believe your case would fit the requirements. I think all you need to do is write a letter and include backup (such as an obituary or death certificate) It's worth a try rather than losing some $, or not being ready for a test.

    FAR 7/8/14 - 88 - Becker live course
REG 10/14/14 - 82 - Becker live course, Ninja notes and audio
BEC 11/25/14 - 88 - Becker live course, Ninja audio, Wiley book for extra questions
AUD 2/3/15 - 94 - Becker self study, Ninja audio, Wiley book for extra questions

Oh I didn't know they offered that! I'm going to try. Thank you!

I am sorry for your loss. I also lost my parent (mother) in the same month my NTS was expiring in Q3. I wrote the State Board Office (SBO) and requested for extension of both of my AUD credit and NTS. No attachment, no backup, just my words and they honored that.

The SBO says, they only extend NTS once for every candidate. In my case, I already asked extension last year for my FAR for a “serious family event” in Q4 of last year. They were very kind and prompt to respond and act on my request. And when I requested them again this year, they were still very kind and compassionate to grant my request since it's a death of a parent. After emailing the exam coordinator, I followed up with them by calling the same day. They told me to go ahead and cancel my appointment and wait for the new NTS in the email, which I received two days later. As for my request for AUD credit that expires in February, they said, I might not need it all, having two more testing windows left for me to sit. LOL, I like that they are more positive than me. However, in case I will run out of my remaining period, they advised me to contact them again. I really wish I would not have to beg them again, more so to wrestle with another AUD again, please!

Sorry to hear about your loss. You definitely need to talk to whomever does your NTS (like NASBA). I received an extension on my NTS when my mother-in-law passed away — I only had to send in a copy of her obituary.

Thank you! Yeah I just filled out that form for NASBA. It can take 7 business days, but hopefully it goes through and is approved. That would make things a little easier. I had to pay to cancel the exam first though, so this better work.. Thank you all for your assistance and your well wishes. I did not realize that was an option before posting this.
