Confused on the N.I.N.J.A. framework regarding reading the Ninja Notes

    NINJA Question –

    Hello all,

So I just ordered my Becker materials and applied to sit in my state. Going to get to studying as soon as my materials come in. I’m starting with FAR and REG (for various reasons that would just make this post wordy). Planning on taking FAR in early October, REG in late November before Thanksgiving. I’ll be a full time student in grad school, but not working (will be next semester, hence saving the “lighter” section for then), so I think that timeline is realistic.

Anyway, I was thinking of complementing the Becker with NINJA notes (already have the $1 flash cards). I have a sample of the FAR notes and was reading the N.I.N.J.A. framework and I’m a little confused.

The acronym basically says work through the videos first, then write notes (or just rewrite ninja notes), then MCQs in your program, re-re-writing (totally a real word) the notes, and finally “all comes together” which is basically the reviewing notes/videos/MCQs in weaker areas. I get all of this and how its outlined…

What I don’t get is then it goes on to give an outline about reading the notes (recommended 5 times in 4 weeks for a 6 week study plan), and then re-writing them the following week, leaving one week of review time. I’m having trouble understanding where this fits into the N.I.N.J.A. framework. Maybe I’m looking at it too precisely but it seems like a pretty solid game plan with pretty good guidance so I wanna make sure I’m following it, but I don’t see where this part fits in. Is it just concurrently with the N.I.N.J.A. framework and less structured or what?

Thanks for any clearance on this from Jeff or anyone who’s used NINJA notes with Becker or any other course! Also, any other guidance for my first CPA attempt is more than welcomed 😀

In my view the NINJA notes are a memory tool to use once you already have achieved a basic understanding of the subject, just as flashcards. The difference is that it's different thing than just repeating what the card says, it also provide the idea around the card itself.

    MS Accounting, MBA

    AUD 76 2/25/14 – Becker

    FAR 75 3/8/14 – Becker

BEC 86 5/3/14 – Becker + NINJA Notes (this is the point were I discovered the another71.com)

    CMA pt1 410 6/28/14 – NINJA BEC book + Gleim MCQ

I'm just confused on where exactly reading the notes fits in with the N.I.N.J.A. framework. Also, where do the sims come in? Doesn't mention it anywhere. Just looking for clarification as I build my study plan.

@scarecrow – glad you like the name! Costanza is my inspiration. Anytime during this process when I think I'm lying to myself about being ready for the test I'll think.. “It's not a lie, if YOU believe it” lol

Great screen name! “Say vandelay! Say vandelay industries!!”

Do know about the editing screw up in this scene? George's newspaper is on one side of his body when he goes down, and then on the opposite side when they pan to it again with him on the floor.

I commute to work up the turnpike 40 mins each way. NINJA audio has been by far the best way for me to “consume” the note framework. It was in my car player for one full year… it was the only thing I listened to… everywhere I went. I could finish Jeff's sentences. I don't think I would have as much discipline to do so if I wasn't physically confined to a car for long stretches of time. Ninja audio was my [BLEEPIN BLEEP] jam, and should be yours as well. You can drop the MP3's into your phone if you take the bus/train. All of a sudden you found over an hour per day of free study time.

“Just remember, it's not a lie if you believe it.” lol, George is king.

    AUD - 75*, 88 done 5/14! (*exp)
    BEC - 74 , 77
    REG - 65 , 76 (10 point combooo!!)
    FAR - 69 , 75

@zieba – I don't think I've noticed that one! I'll have to check next time. I know there's one famous one (can't think of it at the moment) where Kramer walks in and closes the door and then they cut away and back and then its closed, or maybe vice versa. Love those little quirks.

Anyway, Ninja audio is an option. I'll be honest, I can't afford both. I'm thinking either notes or audio and then MAYBE the MCQs in addition (I feel like Becker MCQs will be enough, no?). I live on campus and therefore don't have a long commute thankfully, but I'm wondering if consuming the notes through audio form rather than reading might actually lead to more overall times going through it. I HATE reading, but sometimes I'm bored and laying on the couch. Chillin with my eyes closed listening to the Ninja audio doesn't sound too bad.
