Hello, I have read a ton of you posts and appreciate all of your help and advice. I have posted several time asking the same question, but no one addresses my question. So, I am asking you directly…you mention a lot about finding the answers in the AL for SIMS not just the research ones. I am having a lot of trouble with finding anything that helps. I was a History teacher for 5 years and am very skilled at research, so I am perplexed why I am having so much trouble. Can you provide some advice on how to word the search or any advice that may help? I use CPAexcel and Ninja MCQ, I actually have a lot of trouble finding anything on Ninja, so I am using CPAexcel for SIMS. I am retaking AUD on the 26th after scoring a 67 in MAY. My trending score right now is 85% and I am 96% complete. There are only 44 questions I have not answered correctly. ANY HELP is greatly appreciated.

    AUD: 67, 81 (NINJA MCQ's ONLY for 2nd Attempt)
    FAR: NOT GOOD, LARRY!
    REG: ??
    BEC: 4/4/2015

Hi! The first thing to keep in mind is that the test will give you the full AL and most review courses only give a partial. I think Ninja gives you the full AL, but Ninja didn't exist when I took AUD so I don't know how it compares to the actual exam. In my practice for AUD I didn't search the AL for anything but the research questions, but in the exam I used it for every SIM. I remember being stuck on a SIM that I had never seen before. Didn't know how to proceed. Didn't even know which section it could possibly be in because it was so unfamiliar to me. I just took a couple of key words out of the question and started searching. Better to take several words first and then trim down your search more depending on how many results you get. Some may not have word for word explanations in the AL, but they could lead you to the correct JEs or calculations needed to solve the problem. For instance, you may have to do a JE, but you don't know which side to debit and which side to credit. Some of those can be found in the AL. It may not say Debit Accounts Payable, but it may say debit the liability and you have to know that the liability is “accounts Payable”. It just depends. The other thing that I noticed in review compared to actual is that some review does not have a “search within” feature. You really need to use that on the exam once you know you are in the right topic so you can accurately find the subtopic/paragraph that contains the answer you want. I hope that helps. I don't think I can be any more helpful without breaking disclosure rules.

If I can interject, the AICPA has a good tutorial and practice test (which includes sims with AL functionality) here:

    https://www.aicpa.org/becomeacpa/cpaexam/forcandidates/tutorialandsampletest/pages/exam_tutorial_parallel.aspx

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Disclaimer: My ninja avatar is not meant to imply that I have any affiliation with this site other than being a forum member. That's a pic of a T-shirt that my daughter gave me for my birthday. 🙂

Great, thank you both for the info. I really appreciate the input. I will try the AICPA tutorial.
