Creative ways to obtain required experience?

Ladies and Gents, just beginning my CPA journey and have a few questions regarding licensure and the experience requirement. I’m currently serving in the military (not in a accounting or finance role) and relocate every 3 years or so. When I transition from the military, I’d like to pursue an accounting practice. I currently hold an MBA but lack the prerequisite accounting credits, so I’m currently working on a plan for that as well.

I’m looking for advice on non traditional ways people may have satisfied their experience requirement. Is it too optimistic to think I could find a CPA to work part time for at no charge in exchange for meeting the experience requirement?

Additionally, not knowing which state I’ll end up in, how difficult is it to transfer licensure from state to state if I obtain the CPA while in the military.

In your opinion, is this even possible?

Thanks for your time and advice.

so since you have an MBA, when you meet the accounting credit requirement you might consider going for a “non-reporting” license in MA. The MBA substitutes in essence for the experience requirement but you are restricted from providing audit/attest services until you do meet the experience requirement and upgrade your license. SOME states will transfer a non reporting license (I know CO will).

Not sure what branch you're in but I think southern NH university has a program for folks in the navy. It is online because they are aware that you're not in the same place long.

    Thanks for serving, BTW!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

Mlla, it's an honor to serve (Army BTW). Thanks for the info on MA, that may be my only route. I was also looking Alabama since it's a two tier state.

You can also try CO, 150 credit hrs can satisfy licensure without experience.

I think this provision will be scraped in July 2015.

    REG -63│ 84!!
    BEC- 59│70│ 71 │78!
    AUD- 75!
    FAR- 87!
