Dang! More credits needed

So, I thought I’d encourage myself as I study for my 5th time going to bat with FAR, by pretending I was applying for the actual license. Well, thank you California! I seem to be short 4.33 hours of “Accounting Study”. What that really means is that instead of 24 hours of accounting to qualify to take the exam, you actually need 30 for licensing. They really, really want you to get a Masters, since that will waive all the other requirements.

Dang! So, where to get 4.33 hours of extra accounting? Anyone?

I’ve done UC Berkeley online. I’d like something less expensive and less intense. Like a nice quiet QuickBooks course, since I’m already a ProAdvisor. I’m also a CFE, but that doesn’t seem to count for much.

Guess I’m a little fried and didn’t need to see that extra sneaky unit requirement buried on the back page. Grrrr.

take an online course at a local community college – a quarter system would help bc it's shorter than a semester system. i was short a whole year of college credits and took 8 online courses all of 2014 to be eligible to sit for the exams since they changed the rules starting in 2014.

btw – great audit score. i just can't seem to nail the transaction cycles, it's so dizzying reading a list of 15 options trying to find the Audit procedure used to detect misstatement and then the Internal control that could prevent or detect misstatement in the future. i know i'm going to get that SIM for my retake and so far my results have been mixed. how did you overcome/understand that concept?

Try Ohlone College since you appear to be in the Bay Area. They have some online classes.

Thanks everyone, I need the motivation to keep it going for FAR!

Claudia – I honestly don't remember specifics about AUD other than, this will sound really goofy, I made it into an orchestra. I also “taught” AUD to my assistant, and in doing that I really nailed the concepts. I also am a CFE, so I have extra training in misstatements and fraud, which really helped.

I am trying to make FAR calculations into recipes, since I have no trouble making hundreds of dinners from scratch every year and memorizing the recipes. Ask me for a bond calculation and watch me freeze up!

@CPA50 – ahhhh. i usually see on these posts auditors can't pass audit, lol. maybe CFE is the way to go. for you credits you can try Foothill College, it's cheap, online and a quarter system. UCB extension is too expensive.

Be sure California counts accounting software courses towards your accounting hours before you take a course and find out you're still short. Illinois' requirements, for example, say:

“Accounting courses related to computer programs such as Account Edge, Microsoft Office, MYOB Account Edge (foreign), Peachtree, QuickBooks, SAGE Act, etc. WILL NOT count towards any required Semester Credit Hours (SCH).”

Wow! I have checked and double-checked and CA does allow bookkeeping and QuickBooks courses, but they must be for academic credit.

    Thanks!
