Hello everyone. This is my first post. I have been using Wiley material, Beckers and NINJA MCQS for AUD and REG but i couldn’t get through these tests. I have until May to get through these else i would lose my credits for the other two exams. I don’t know where i have been going wrong. My practice tests in Becker and Ninja show around 90% but the actual score turns out to be in between 65-70. I have already given AUD 5 times and it is discouraging to see myself fail everytime. And as a bonus I’m a mother of a 2 week old. It is so stressful and depressing in this time to give both exams in one testing period. Any suggestions on the study plan would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance 🙂

First , congratulations that you mustered the courage and energy to sit for these exams while being SO pregnant. Becoming a parent is like being reborn. Taking CPA exams at the same time is a monumental challenge.

Second, you can do this. You have almost 4 months left, correct? Are you also on maternity leave right now? Can somebody else give you a break for 2-3 hours per day so you can study?

I became eligible to sit for the exam just as my son was born in 2009. I put it off because life was insane for that first year. Then I had my second in 2011. Finally i started when my kids were 4 and 2 and I just finished as they are 6 and 4. I do regret not getting it done sooner. Get it out of the way now, you know how to pass these as you have already done two.

After taking one section 5x, you probably need a fresh look at the material. Mabe take the plunge and invest in a different review course for the remaining sections…. I'm sure by now you have memorized all the MCQs in Becker and Ninja… Then go HAM on the material!

    BEC 65, 71, 75
    AUD 62, 70, 78
    REG 67, 66, 65, 66, 64
    FAR 68, 64, 73

    BEC - 75 (3x)
    AUD - 78 (3x)
    REG - 67, 66, Aug 1
    FAR - 54, Sept 8

I mentioned it in another post. Audit is the only exam where pure memorization won't help you get above 74. Becker really sucks for Audit as they help you only to memorize the whole book, and hopefully you might get lucky. If you combine Roger's cram with Ninja MC, you will kill Audit next window. I could bet anyone 1,000 that you will pass Audit with the mentioned combination. Becker helps you to memorize Audit principles and definitions, but Roget shows you how to become an Auditor.

I don't know about REG, I'm not following roger for REG as I need a faster way to pass Regulation, and I think Becker might be enough.

6silvermoonbeams- Thank you for the encouragement. I am a home maker and i don't work. And thankfully i have my mother to support me and my husband who works from home almost 3 days a week. I have help with household stuff but i get dragged to the baby when she cries. I miss the time being spent with her. I can manage around 6 hours a day to study. Im worried with the study material as i memorized all the ninja, Becker and Wiley MCQs.

@Martin-For AUD, would Rogers Cram be sufficient along with NINJA MCQs or would you suggest the entire CPA REVIEW course? Im planning to invest on Rogers CPA REVIEW course for REG as well. What are your thoughts on it?

If you can afford the whole review for Audit, I would do it. He is just great at teaching Audit. He does not make you memorize the whole book like Becker does, so you have a better idea as to how to approach the tricky questions that make you fail the exam. You can try ebay. Based on what I read, I think his cram course for Reg should be enough. I know for a fact that Becker is great for individual taxation and business law (better than roger). For the other 60% of the exam, I would go with Roger.

You must leave the house to study. I work full time in public accounting, my wife also works full time, shes an auditor. We don't have any help. SO I missed seeing my kids for almost 2 years. I went to the coffee shops and libraries every day. It sucked, my wife wanted me to do it but also carried a lot of weight in the meantime. You have to leave the house to study. The distractions at home are killing your score.

2nd that…I never study at home.

    Libraries…

    Coffee shops…

    My community college alma mater!

Nothing gets done when you're at home. And study like crazy for the last two weeks before the test. I've been off of work due to a happy coincidence and all I've done since last Friday is study (FAR on 2/27/16).

It's slog, you simply have to commit way more time than you'd ever think necessary to this. It's different for everyone (which test is hard/easy).

I'd say one thing that helped me on Audit (and likely on FAR) was to know the MCQs well, do them fast and get the the simulations. I took audit three times last year and on my last try I had ample time for the SIMs and I felt much more calm and relaxed.

But…I felt I NAILED Audit only to get like a 78 or whatever? When I got my 74 on Audit I wasn't too worried about a pass – go figure?

This is all about LOTS OF HARD work. Nothing else. Not smart people, just people who work hard and long at beating this.

If you can't make the time right now put it off.

    Reg 83

Bepositive, wow a baby and writing CPA exams. Im impressed!

Can I ask, are you actually enrolled in the Becker course, or just reading the book? I think with Audit, it really requires you to have a strong foundation. Without it, you wont understand the more complicated concepts. So I would not bother doing several courses, just stick to say Becker and know it well, as opposed to skimming 3 different courses/programs.

I study pretty diligently. I really think Becker for Audit-the regular Becker course is not that good. I don’t think Tim Gearty is good at explaining why things are done. He may be a professional auditor, but he is not a good teacher.

I would highly recommend Becker’s “Final Review” for Audit. There is a different lecturer- a really good guy, who speaks and explains things very concisely. Also, the topics are bite-sized, so just a page or so on every topic.

I really feel Becker’s final review for audit has tied everything together in my head, rather than just force me to memorize lists.

    Good luck!
