Did I schedule BEC too far away?

I’m almost 20 percent done with the Wiley material, and I’ve only been studying 6 days. I scheduled the exam for May 7 thinking that it’s better safe than sorry. I had planned to finish Wiley two weeks before test date to hammer Ninja MCQs, but at this pace I’m due to finish way too early. I hope I don’t start forgetting the material I’m studying this week. Ugh…can’t win for losing!

At that pace it will take you 24 more days to get through the material. Then that gives you an additional week to review. I think you have just enough time at your current rate.

I am taking BEC on 7/1, I decided to give myself enough time to study than keep rescheduling exam.

I think you gave yourself too much time. I think people should at least take 2 exams per window. If you schedule right you can give yourself like 6 or 7 weeks to study for each exam, which in my opinion is still a lot.

I think about halfway through the wait to your exam you're going to be just reviewing and trying not to forget stuff you learned. That 18 month window is going to close really fast if you're only taking 1 chance per window.

    Again, thats just my opinion.

If you notice an earlier date in April I would try and reschedule. Or you can memorize everything really well and go for a 99 just for kicks!

I think you could do a late April exam, but some people need more time than others. From my experience, I never gave myself longer than 6-8 weeks to study for any part, because I knew it'd be harder for me to retain information the longer the study period was. I feel like the longer people stretch it out, the more time they spend reviewing because they forget information learned early on. I knocked out BEC in 3 weeks, but like I say the time varies. The more important question you need to ask yourself is how much time do you think you'll need to pass, and do that. Good luck!

I just re-read my post … I was thinking you said April 7th! … I think that if you do not retain information for very long then you will have given yourself too much time. On your current pace, you can test mid-April and still leave 2 weeks of review. Like another poster mentioned, it might be beneficial for you to take 2 exams this window rather than spending unnecessary time on one exam.

I do not retain information for long and prefer to study in a condensed time frame. I am still trying to figure out the perfect amount of time.

    My general rule:

1 week per chapter + 2 weeks to review/mcq cram

Obviously, you can add or subtract as you feel necessary.

BEC should be squeezed with another section in the same window. I wouldn't use an entire window just for BEC. You really only need 3-4 weeks to get through all material and review. If you're putting in 20 hours in per week that is. Especially having FAR done it's not unrealistic to get two more done in the next window (BEC/AUD) maybe? Congrats by the way on your FAR pass.

I also would not spend two whole weeks to review for BEC. I don't think that's necessary. The first test I got a 70 and barely put in over 40 hours studying in the course of 4 weeks, I wasn't studying much. The re-take which was after I took two other exams I put in about 55 hours over 3 weeks and got the pass.

@REG – what did you do differently for the retake? I find that a condensed schedule is better for me. My target date is 4/4, but I have failed twice. Last score release I got 74. I felt well prepared, maybe it was just the luck of the draw?

It could have been the luck of the draw, getting more questions on topics I'm more comfortable with. On the re-take I did not re-watch Roger lectures. I went through the entire book page by page chapter by chapter. I wrote notes as I read. I read the notes I wrote the following day to keep it fresh, usually about 30 minutes for that. I did Ninja MCQ as well. I only got through just over 350 questions but I focused on my trouble areas. I read the reasons for getting it wrong and didn't just blast through a bunch of MCQ's. Ninja I feel was the difference for me. The first test I did not use Ninja MCQ. If you use Ninja EFFECTIVELY I truly believe you'll get the pass, especially for BEC.

I didn't practice any writing problems either. I was on the bubble the 2nd time too so my written portion was hand graded and got me over the hump.

Let me ask you guys this – even if I move the test dramatically forward (say, to the second week of april), I doubt I'll be taking another exam this window anyhow. So is it even worth it?

@Bear-Bear – Maybe keep your appointment and if you feel prepared to take it sooner just reschedule. I just feel that scheduling to far out is just as problematic as scheduling too soon. If you are good at remembering minute details for an extended duration of time then your time frame can be fine, but most people have < 8 week span of short term memory and the more you try to retain the harder it will be to retain it.

In my opinion as long as you keep the material fresh in your head it shouldn't matter when you take it once you fully get through all the material and did all the studying you can. Unless you plan to not even look at one question between mid april and may, I think you should be fine.
