I did dual major and i have my 150 credit hours.

I am currently working on my CPA but i still need 3 accounting classes in order to get my CPA license. (you need 30 credit hours here in Georgia to get the license but you can sit with 21)

Anyway , I would like to get a MBA or maybe MTAX at Georgia State University where i got my undergrad. Problem is Tuition is 36 000 for the program and i really dont want anymore loans. GSU has a very good MTAX program that is ranked high. I think something like top 20 in the country.

I have full time job now that i love but they dont pay for anything and i make 13/hr. I have no problem with that as the people are great and i work 40 hrs a week. On top of that most days i have 2-3 hrs down time where i can study for the CPA exam.

If i pass my CPA exams and start working at the big 4 or other companies are they gonna pay for my masters? What are some companies that would do that? if there is not many i will jsut go ahead and bite the bullet and get loans and start it right away. If i could get one of the companies to pay for me though i would rather wait to do it.

It seems like you are looking for Big 4 info…but I will throw this out there. I work for a university and my masters is free as a benefit of my employment (although some tax implications apply).

    Hi BaxterCPA,

Are you still working at the university? I am also working in a university and my masters is free like yours.

What did you do after you graduated? Continue working at the university or looking for another job? I am asking because I don't' know if I should continue working at the university although it has great benefits.

Baxter – I would LOVE to work for a university. I just can't take the 40% pay cut 🙁

I know my company (in Industry) does but its like 5,500 you get reimbursed. So still would have to pay a large sum on my own.

My friend worked for big pharma and he got 100%. Never even had to front the money the company paid the school directly. With the recession though even the old traditional large companies have done away with this. They changed his mid program but were at least kind enough to grandfather him in…

Big 4's will pay for a masters in tax, if you work in tax, after a couple years as long as things are still the same. They would never pay for an MBA because it is not relevant enough to what we do. This kind of goes back to the CPA vs. MBA thing: why do big 4's pay for all testing fees, materials, bonus, etc for the CPA, but hardly give you a small raise if you have an MBA?

pwc will pay for mbt, but only up to a certain amt per year, so if you do part-time you may be able to get it paid in full. it is contingent on you staying with the firm for x amount of years after your degree.

HuynhCPA & Baxter, not to hijack this thread, but I work at a large University also. Seems to be a common theme at Universities- low pay but good benefits. My University did pay for some of my MBA and my review course for CPA, but not all the testing fees.

OP–Why don't you just take your 3 required classes in tax instead of getting the whole Master's? Is it really beneficial to have a Masters once you have passed the CPA? I thought employers really just cared about the CPA at that point.
