I'm currently content with my percentages in the other categories, except for Federal Taxation of Individuals, which is 50%, and Federal Taxation of Entities, which is 51%. With the exam just a couple of days away, do I have a chance of passing? These percentages are for Ninja MCQ. I am scoring in the 70s with Wiley, but I have already seen the Wiley questions before so the high Wiley percentages may be misleading.

I left about 100 pages of the CPAExcel book without thoroughly studying (due to tax season eating up my studying time) So I read it over once.. Those 100 pages contained Corp basis, and other important stuff; basically the last 100 pages of the CPAExcel Reg book.

So the last week prior to the exam I just did MCQs religiously. I did the CPAExcel MCQs and the Ninja MCQs and bounced back in forth, just studying whatever I got wrong…. must have done like 1500-2000 questions in total… didn't get a chance to practice Sims… passed with a 75.

So yea, you DEF have a chance. Keep going at it and give it your all, good luck.

Determined, what is your strategy when you do MCQs? I suggest doing them one at a time (no practice tests where the feedback comes at the very end) and then look to see what the answer and solutions are right then, before going on to the next question. If you messed up calculations, don't just look at them– rework them yourself by hand. Make notes on where you went wrong, by hand. And if you look at a question and don't know the answer, don't guess– look it up. Always keep the focus on the material, not your percentages. They are taking up valuable real estate in your head.

For REG, I printed out the main tax forms and brought them around with me so I could familiarize myself with the basic format of the tax returns.

And don't drive yourself into the ground the day before and day of the exam with frantic prep– try to take it a bit easier so you can go in on exam day with a clear (but full of knowledge) head and kill it.

I have been doing mainly new questions for all categories. But I am now focusing on just on these two categories that I am weak in. For these two categories, I am doing both new questions and questions “missed last time seen.” And thanks for the input. I try to remind myself that I was able to pass BEC with less than spectacular percentages on practice questions.

I'm doing much better at Federal Taxation of Entities now. I guess I'll just have to make do with Federal Taxation of Individuals as my Achilles Heel.

Considering that these tests are graded based on item response theory and not on percentage correct I would say you have a chance. Since you have a good feel for this test and you are only concerned about those two areas I think you will be okay.

So apparently I found out you should be doing “adaptive MCQ” instead of just doing “new question” for specific categories. After doing a couple of adaptive sessions the new averages for those two categories that I am weak on, the “average score” for both is 53%. However, the “average trending score” is 70% and 63%. The “average score” takes into account every question that I did, including the ones I did when I first started using Ninja MCQ.

    @bbrandenburg10

Thanks man. And after I've done a couple of adaptive MCQ sessions I feel I am in a much better spot than before.

Anything is possible, keep your spirits up! I only studied 5 days for REG, didn't make it past R4 and passed. Also, I've never scored higher that about 70% on the Becker MCQ and I'm batting 1.000. Do you're best and for the love of all things holy, go into the test with confidence. Every exam morning, I do the following:

    1. Wake up and drink a cup of coffee

    2. Get in the shower and pretend like I'm boxing the CPA exam (left, left, right – juke, duck, RIGHT!)

    3. Flex and yell, “This is SPARTA!”

    4. Show up to the Prometics center and pass the exam

Give it a try, good luck!

    BEC: Passed
    AUD: Passed
