    Hi All,

I’m thinking about studying for the CPA exam. The only materials that I have are those 4 books of Becker CPA Exam Review. (Someone gave them to my mom and she gave them to me). I’m planning to spend about two months with a total of about 120 hours to study on each book. I’m wondering if anyone has passed the CPA exam by just studying the Becker review books? Do these books have most of the information covered in the CPA exam? My first part of the exam that I’m going to study is BEC. Thanks

Which year are the books for? 2012?

In my opinion, its not enough to pass the cpa exam with just these books alone. Becker has a pass master software attached to it, which has thousands of questions. The book only provides basic guidelines about what is tested on the exam. The real stuff is the pass master and simulation software.

No, the Becker books alone are not enough to pass the exams. You will need to have access to MCQs in order to have any shot at passing, in my opinion.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

I have the 2011 edition of Becker.

So I assume that Becker MCQ has many same questions or type of questions on the CPA Exam? Can I substitute Becker MCQ with Wiley Test Bank?

Wiley Test Bank will do the trick. But again, it also depends on your background, how good you are in Acctg, tax, Audit. How good you did in college in Intermediate I&II. How recent you graduated. A lot of variables come into play.

If you do Wiley Test Bank, than how will you understand lectures? You need to listen to the lectures as well.

You could probably get by with WTB and the Becker books, maybe…

A lot of people say they don't “get anything” out of the lectures, but I can't imagine not listening to them and just going straight to the book. Listening to a Becker lecture for 4 hours feels like all you're doing is “highlight this, underline that” but you would be surprised at what they are teaching you just by little examples/explanations as they go along.

I supplemented Becker with WTB for my BEC exam and it was very helpful. However, you'll really have to stay on top of what MCQs go with which Becker topic, etc. You might want to just go for the Wiley course in its entirety. I realize these review courses are expensive, but this is such a big investment in your future, I would rather do it right and have it be a little more expensive than try to do it on the cheap and not give myself the best chance of passing the exams. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Don't the Becker books have all the MCQs printed at the end of each module?

They have MCQs at the end of each chapter, but it isnt what most people would consider a sufficient amount of material to pass the exam.

While I am not going to say you have enough materials. I am not sure you NEED the lectures, I find my self zoning out during them, yes I still listen but I find the NINJA audio to be better for me. And I have the books and the Wiley test bank. You need to find a mix that works for you. Everyone is different.

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

It depends how the lectures are delivered. They are KEY for passing the exam, in my opinion. I used to listen to the lectures, one bit at a time, pause the lectures, makes notes from the lectures, i used to call them the final gold nuggets, which i used to review them one week before the exam.

I used to go back & forth btw lectures and 20 MCQ's , than back to lectures and most of the times things were clicking.

AT this point any shortcuts are not good. You will end up paying lots of money in retaking the exam, paying prometric and nasba and also the frustration part that will kick in for not passing the exam.
