    Dear A71,

Sorry for this rant, I was just dumbstruck because I followed every study instructions my review course is telling me to do. I use Yaeger CPA. I really don’t know what I am doing wrong.

FAR Is very tricky and has a lot of material to cover. Also if this is your first test, it can be intimidating to sit for the first time.

Do you know how many hours you studied, and did you do the multiple choice questions more than once?

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

I failed FAR with a 62 I know how u feel. Although I haven't passed it I know what I have to do to get over that hump. I need to work on sims and journal entries then focus more on MCQs. I started out with yaeger and while they are very reputable I couldn't sit through those lectures they suck and I get so bored. I really think videos are a waste of time. You've gotta find out what's best for you and you're learning style. Read this site and take advice from people who have done it. And don't give up. It's ok if you fail

    FAR 62, 66, 78
    AUD 66, 55, 74, 72
    BEC 79
    REG

If this is your first exam, maybe Yaeger just isn't the best study program for you. Maybe you should consider checking out the trials offered by other companies to see if there is a better program for you. Otherwise, maybe the information just didn't sink in as well as you thought it did.

And as mla said, FAR has a lot a material. So you could know some of the material well, but ended up with questions on the material you don't know as well.

For FAR it is important to be comfortable with every topic. You don't need to be an expert on everything since its not all tested.

If you feel the material is foreign to you i recommend going back to the basics. In my opinion FAR requires a strong understanding of the fundamentals (ie debits & credits, A=L+SE) which are taught in the principles of accounting class. If you feel this is a weak spot then buy a college textbook and learn from there.

    Just my two cents

Not sure if it would help or not, but I've also been using Yaeger. For FAR especially I went through all of the videos and didn't even bother working any of the questions Phil assigned at the back of the handout, just the ones they went through on the videos. After I got through all of the videos, then I sat down and did every single question, section by section, that he had at the back of the handout, reading every single explanation regardless of whether I got the question right or wrong. Also made sure to read over all of the key terms for the module before working the questions. Videos for FAR are so freaking long in order to cover everything, doing this really helped to sort of refresh all of the various topics after having gone through it all.

After I got through that, then I finally opened the Wiley test bank software for the first time and just kind of went nuts on that for a week or two until exam time. Not sure if that would help any or not, but I was able to pass it on the first time (barely!).

    FAR - 75
    AUD - 72; 87
    REG - 64; 74; 84
    BEC - 88

    Done!!

I just got my score this morning and passed with an 87. I used Yaeger and I literally would not have known (definitively at least) the right answer to one question before I started the review course. All I did was the course. I did every question on the handout but nothing more. Well, I did do the CRAM also but it's just a super short version of the original videos.

You REALLY need to do the suggested homework. It's not that much — especially in comparison to how many MCQ's/SIMS your average CPA exam student does. If you don't do them, you have no idea if you grasped the concept the instructors were teaching you — especially if you just followed along in the videos as they were working the problems and didn't stop it to see if you get it on your own first. I normally didn't stop the videos because the course was SO LONG to begin with…

    .

    FAR - 87 2/18/14
    AUD - 84 4/2/14
    REG - 87 7/23/14
    BEC - 78 8/26/14

I'm finally an *official* CPA - TX

Want to follow up and say I *do* think I got a pretty easy (well, relatively) version of the exam. My weak spots weren't tested.

Plus, for things like pensions that are just ridiculous, I didn't get it and was like “well, there is SO much material, the exam can't test one area THAT much without leaving out a gazillion topics.” Still worked the homework though ;-).

I think FAR is just a brutal amount of material- regardless of prior education. I recommend getting as familiar with the material-through lecture and homework- and then immersing yourself in MCQ's, note taking, audio, or anything else you receive benefit from.
