I’m scheduled to sit for FAR on Nov 20. I started studying during the second week of September using the CPAExcel course. As of today I am only 50% of the way through the course and that first 50% badly needs to be reviewed. Am I screwed and should I just reschedule the test for January or is it possible to change my studying plan and still have a shot?

I work full time with about a 90 min commute each way so just giving it all my free time won’t be enough. Would it be better if I abandoned the rest of the CPAExcel text and purchased the Ninja notes and audio? Also, is it better to just sit for the test, fail, and reschedule for January or just reschedule it without sitting?

    Thanks for any input!

@tony get the ninja notes and audio especially the audio since you've a long commute. As for the reschedule it's pretty much up to you. If you don't mind spending some extra $$ I'd say take the exam in November so you could get a fee of the real thing. Also if you commit yourself to Ninja audio and notes, there's a chance that you might actually pass this thing. Also like most people I can't study until I'm under pressure, so for me a reschedule would mean delaying my studies for another month or so. To add on top, December will kick off the holiday season and no matter how focused you might be you just can't escape the spirit of Christmas. Just my $0.02 cents. Good luck and happy study

Definitely get Ninja Notes and Audio. But also, go to the end of your lessons in CPAExcel and look at Government and Not for Profit accounting. Don't even bother taking your exam without going over these…the DRIP CEG PIPPA mnemonic is invaluable!

For us Non CPAExcel users, what is the DRIP CEG PIPPA mnemonic??

    A - 75
    B - 78 God is good.
    F - 77 Answered prayers.
    R - 84! Done!!

Paperwork sent - waiting for license!!
Still on a cloud and in shock. Through God, all things will happen.

In the DRIP CEG…the consonants DRPCG are the five governmental fund types, they use the modified accrual basis of accounting. The vowels IE are the proprietary fund types using accrual accounting. PIPPA are the fiduciary fund types using accrual accounting. And the aid was to remember “Drip the keg, Pippa (Duchess Kate's sister)”
