Is it ok to start a FAR Study Group? I retook Audit yesterday and although I don’t have a gut feeling either way if I passed or not, I am going to start on FAR. I am using Becker self-study and purchased the Ninja Notes for FAR.

I am looking forward to reading a/b everyone’s progression. Good Luck!

@nashville79, I haven't taken FAR yet but I would say try to shoot for 1.5 to 2 hours for SIMs.

    @ 1bentcpa:

Non-monetary assets exchanged, cash flows are significantly different => then it has commercial substance and gain/ loss can be recorded @ FV.

If Non-monetary assets exchanged, cash flows are NOT significantly different => then it LACKS commercial substance and gain/ loss can be recorded @ the amount of non-monetary asset relinquished.

It involves “significant” boot, defined as 25% or more of the FV of the exchange, are deemed to be monetary. Indeed, both parties should record these exchanges at FV and recognize all gains or losses accordingly.

Please correct me, If am wrong.

@CalCPa – Thanks. That is what I am reading. My question was more on approach to Basis calculation in different scenarios. I got it last night though 🙂 – will re-post a bit later though.
