    Great stories guys.

Maybe when we pass the exams we can publish a book on how the kids react to their parents taking CPA exam. My youngest daughter was little dissapointed with Garity (whom she named the gap guy) for he would say: “Now highlight this sentence”, and then like this task would be too hard he would highlight it for us. She was further dissapointed when she saw I studied “opportunity cost” for BEC, the same concept she was studying last winter in economics (3 grade) and it didn't take her nearly as much time as it took me:)

…yes, that's part of the curriculum for social studies 3 grade (public school). of course, not too many details, intro to economics. the funny thing was we were studying it at the same time and I am supposedly studying to get the highest accounting license…

So relieved to be done with FAR! Used Becker and it worked pretty well, felt fairly good about the test after it was done. Although, I did spend most of june studying…

    @GopherCPA,

May I ask how many times you went over homeworks? I only read the book once, listened to lectures once, did the required homeworks once. In my final week (now), I plan to go over the required homeworks once more, the supplemental questions, and simulations. I feel like that's not enough but I don't wanna reschedule my exam :-/ I would really appreciate your advice! Thanks!

    GopherCPA-

How do you advice preparing for the sims? How bad were they? Had you done all the sims from Becker, including the ones for Governmental and NFP?

    Thanks!

cpa journey – I'll bet you miss your cat. 🙁 My cat often joins me in studying as well. She walks across my laptop a few times then plops down on my books. I ask her if she is giving me good luck, then after a few minutes of loving her up, I have to pick her up and put her on the floor.

FAR Behind – LOL about your daughter! My kids like to make fun of Gearty and Olinto when they see them, especially if they are saying some silly thing to make us remember.

GopherCPA – Hope you get a passing score in Wave 1! What a releif to have it behind you.

whonis2002 – I haven't scheduled yet, but I'm looking at the last week of August. I am only on Becker Ch. 2 right now. Here's my strategy. I listen to the lectures for the Chapter, then read the chapter and take my own notes, At that point I do MCQs once (not the supplemental). Then move on to the next Chapter and do the same. I plan to do a progress test after every 2 chapters.

I also read over my notes from previous chapters in bed before falling asleep each night. I keep the flashcards in my purse so I pull those out whenever I get a chance to go over even a few. After I finish all the Chapters, I'll read Jeff's notes and watch the Club 75 videos.

I have the Becker Final Review and I hope to have time to cover it. I didn't even have time to open it for AUD, but passed without it. I don't want to take that chance with FAR!! What is your game plan?

ConnieCPAin2010 thats pretty much what am doing I just finished Chapter 2 and I feel comfortable with what I have covered but who knows there is always feeling comfortable now but when it comes to the actual exam something unexpected always appears. I also noticed you mentioned not looking at the supplemental questions, am also skipping those in Chapter 2, but wondering if its really a good idea not to look at them. Did you also have supplemental questions in AUD and where they worth going through?

Lets ask GopherCPA. Is it worth skipping the supplemental questions FAR?

Hey all! Just checking in to say I feel totally overwhelmed and nervous. I sit for FAR tomorrow at noon. I've worked abt 1/2 of the becker sims and I've done ok. I'm working back through the book, working all the examples as I go through and then doing a quiz over each topic. I had a spaz attack on Monday and almost rescheduled, but decided to suck it up. I've put in most of the time, just need to bear down, right?

I'll try to work the sup Q's for the sections I struggle with (interco transactions, bonds and deferred tax) and keep praying for depreciation/income statement/consolidation simulations.

Some stuff is totally clicking, some isn't… I really feel like there is just SO much info. I'm having way more test anxiety about FAR than I had about BEC or REG… anyway, good luck you guys. I love reading your stories and your pep talks. We all have it in us to beat this monster.

If time permits, or if I'm struggling with a Chapter I'll hit the supplemental MCQs for that chapter. That's what I did for all my other exams.

I just took the exam on monday, and it was hands down, no question about it, the hardest test of my entire life. I have passed both BEC and AUD. If I were to rate the tests on a scale of difficulty w/ FAR being a 10, I would put AUD at 5 and BEC at 6. I”m normally very calm and handle myself fine and never get anxiety over tests, but I kind of panicked a bit on this one.

I think it is totally normal to go into this test feeling unprepared. There is just so much damn info. Don't think you are the only one. I bet over 90% of the candidates go into this one feeling unprepared. I read all 90 pages or so of the FAR comments from the last testing window and it seems as if many people felt just like I did coming out of the test. I felt like a 99% chance I failed. And I studied hard. I studied way harder than I did for BEC and AUD.

So my advice is to remain calm. You are not going to know everything. Nobody is. Don't spend too much time on any one question. If you can't get it within 2 minutes, make an educated guess.

    AUD - 81, BEC - 74, 80, FAR - 82, REG - 81

    Lucylaw,

Good luck tomorrow. Don't let it intimidate you. Just focus on what you know. Goodness sakes, we can't be an expert on everything. Pray you get tested on what you studied.

I am studying like Connie, only I haven't done progress test. I used do them and realized I had memorized the answers. I have a 2007 Wiley question bank I use for semi-fresh material. The Becker Final Review is really good for FAR.

Lucy, post afterwards and let us know what you thought.

    financeguy,

I felt okay in January after I took FAR. I knew I didn't ace it but thought maybe I had a shot since the questions were not that bad. FAILED. Looking back I know I was not prepared enough.

I knew I failed in May. Easy testlets but I hadn't begun to study through it all again so I didn't really even try.

My point is that it seems like people who are convinced they failed due to a difficult exam usually pass. Keep the faith.
