I’m ready to sit for the CPA exam. I want to sit for Florida but I’m a military wife and wont be moving permanently there for at least 5 to 7 more years.

My question is, can I sit for the exam and then get the work experience outside Florida? Can I work in another state and use that experience to apply for the license in FL? I read that FL CPA exams score only last three years and after that I will have to retake them if I’m not licensed by then.

If not, do you think I should then apply for EA instead? I don’t want to be idle too long. I need to start building my career somewhere but feeling a bit lost and discourage with all the obstacles.

As always thanks for sharing your wisdom,

Florida does have some of the toughest requirements. There are several states where your scores will never expire if you don't get licensed. Why not apply through one of those?

    Florida CPA!
    Took final exam 2/25/15.
    Sent in Application 3/12/15.
    Issued License 3/20/15.
Used CPA Excel solely for all exams.

I agree with y_u_no_pass. Get your license in another state where you can qualify. That buys you time to fulfill Florida's requirements and then you can just become licensed in Florida when you're ready.

    REG - 78
    FAR - 79
    AUD - 76
    BEC - 75

I have been on this journey off and on for over 10 years. I think it's about time that I wrap this up.

    AUD - 10/21/16 (75----07/2010 expired)
    FAR - 10/28/16
    BEC - 11/2016
    REG - 01/2017

You can get your experience and take your exams outside of FL, I did. I wouldn't go the EA route if you are CPA eligible.

Ok, it makes sense to just get the license at one of those states instead but I'm worried about the requirements to then transfer the license to another state (specially when I don't know which state we will go next).

I'm just over thinking the whole thing. I'm exhausted and anxious about my future. Being a military spouse complicates things tremendously.

    Thanks,
