Kind of off-topic, but I had the opportunity to meet Gary Bulmash today, who does the AUD portion for Yaeger CPA Review (as well as some of the topics on FAR). He was the speaker today for the Maryland Association of CPA’s (AA County) on upcoming/proposed changes for accounting and auditing/attestation, not specifically for the CPA exam but obviously some of this relates.

Anyway, he is an extremely nice guy… talked to him for approximately 15 minutes before the conference began and we discussed the AUD exam a little bit (I used Yaeger in May and ended up with a 97 with only a couple of weeks of study, so I highly recommend him) and the upcoming changes, which he doesn’t believe are going to be a huge deal. He did speaks of the clarity project during the discussion, and mentioned that something similar might be coming for SSARS as well. He also mentioned that the PCAOB didn’t adopt any of the clarity stuff, so nothing changes on the exam for public companies.

Gary is quite hilarious as well. Maybe the nature of the CPA review course doesn’t allow this to come out much, but he has some really good jokes that had everyone cracking up. If you have the opportunity to hear him speak, you should definitely take advantage of it… thanks Gary!

I've using Yaeger cram for my next Audit exam. He isn't funny on the videos, but he isn't boring either. I've learned so much from him already! Luck you meeting him!

Yeah, he doesn't come through as that funny in the review course, probably because of the premium placed on getting everything through in as little time as possible. He's something else in person though, and moreover had the ability to actual use his humor to relate to actual situations/concepts.

Good luck on AUD at the end of July!

@InterFC1, look at your scores! I wish I had your knack in taking the test. I only have “knock-knock” on my head though:)

    What about Yaegar CRAM Courses?

What do you think of complementing them with my existing Becker & 10-point Combo?

I am not sure how am I going to handle tons of materials now.

@amordiva – I have no experience with Becker, the Yaeger CRAM courses, or any of the NINJA material, so I'm not sure how valuable my input might be. I can't say enough about the Yaeger courses in general though. I think that the best supplement to any review courses that you're currently using would be the Wiley Test Bank; I bought that for REG during the last week of studying (probably should have purchased it sooner) and then for the 2.5 weeks that I studied for AUD, and I thought it was a great tool not only to practice the MCQ, but as a learning tool as well (assuming that you're taking the time to understand why each possibility is correct or incorrect).

By the time I rolled into my last exam (AUD), I think that I had a pretty good strategy laid out. Watched the Yaeger videos, wrote my own notes, and then hit the MCQ in WTB. It might seem like a lot, but it was approximately 50-60 hours of total study time, I went into the exam rather confident, and thought that a lot of it was quite easy.

When I was restudying for AUD, Mr. Bulmash was referred to as Uncle Gary in my house 🙂

He seemed like a nice man. Glad to hear that's true!

I LOVE GARY! He made me laugh in the videos a couple times and I would love to meet him! Even though I didn't pass AUD the first time, I definitely think he's a great instructor and I look forward to learning from him again for my retake in August. Thanks for sharing!

@kreibsome08 – Good luck the second time around. Judging from your first result, you're not that far off at all…

@MCLKT – I know exactly what you're talking about. When I was studying for AUD, I would pause the videos and bring my laptop out so my wife could laugh along with me on some of the things that he would say. I wanted to give him a big bear hug at the conference, but I thought that might be a little inappropriate!

Love it… I hope he comes back soon and speaks at another MACPA event. The guy could reach legendary status.
