Hard to study for next section before score release

So, because time is of the essence, I am starting REG tonight. I won’t get my BEC score for three weeks, and it’s making it very difficult to get my mind right and focus. I keep thinking “What if I don’t pass BEC? Then these three weeks of REG study will be for nothing!”

I mean, I feel like I passed, but until you see the official, final score…there’s no way of knowing. How do you guys handle this horrible uncertainty?

    FAR - PASS
    BEC - PASS
    REG - PASS
    AUD - PASS

Seriously though, I have FAR next week but can't focus at all since i'm currently waiting on my REG score so i feel your pain.

@mbf – how do you even study for two sections (FAR and REG) and take them within a week of each other??? I know I've heard from old timers that say we're all spoiled because the test isn't administered in a two day period like it was back then. And, I'm not sure how they covered and retained all of that info at one time like that. So, anyway – hats off to you!

My teenage son to me "If you don't pass, it isn't like you'll die or anything."  True.  Very true.  Just do your best, it's all you can do.

@sdollen, sorry for the confusion! i took REG back in early April and will be getting my score this week. the anxiety of waiting for my score is distracting me from studying for FAR, which i take next week.

i could never imagine taking those two tests within a week of each other. it's proving to be challenging enough taking them in the same testing window at all…

@Bear-Bear The 3 weeks spent on REG doesn't have to be and shouldn't be wasted. If you fail BEC, still take REG, cause you've just put 3 weeks into studying it so might as well finish it up and pass it. Then after you take REG, go back to studying BEC. I think the break is helpful for the mind, and doesn't hurt you at all for passing. Actually, it helps your odds of passing because it helps you realize you're studying for 75 points again, instead of being lulled into thinking you only need to do 3 points worth of studying (if you got a 72) or something like that. So, study for REG, take it when you're planning to currently, and if you find out between now and then that you failed BEC, then know that after you take REG, it's back to BEC. If you find out you passed BEC, then move on to the next exam after REG. Don't move on to AUD before passing either BEC or REG, sure, but don't waste 3 weeks of REG study by jumping back to BEC, either. Then after you take REG, if you passed BEC, move on into AUD.

@sdollen64 Whether the old-timers want to admit it or not, they have added a lot of material to the exams since the days of all 4 being taken in 2 days. So, whether they were harder to study for then or not is a question that's open to debate, but not an absolute. 😉 I have seen people in the last year or two on here, though, who have taken all 4 within a week or less, and I have found that very admirable! It's usually been individuals who had to fly in to the States to take the exams so were trying to get them done on one flight. Quite an impressive feat!

Why would you ditch REG if you didn't pass BEC? You'll find the consensus around here is if you fail a section you need to completely start over. I've made the mistake of almost passing (72) and thinking everything is still fresh and I'll just review for 2 weeks and take again and got a 61 on the same exact test I took a month before. The majority of people take one and move onto something else, but some people do like to hammer on one test until they pass. You might be one of those people. If you are then there is no point in studying REG at all if you are going to go right back to BEC if you didn't pass.

    BEC 60, 71, 71, 73, 81
    AUD 72, 81
    REG 60, 78
    FAR 71, 78

    Licensed CPA in Texas

    AUD - 72, 81
    FAR - 71, 78
    REG - 60, 78
    BEC - 60, 71, 71

IF I FALL, I WILL GET BACK UP. IF I AM BEATEN, I WILL RETURN.

Thanks guys. That makes sense to me (the whole “You are studying for 75 points again, not just 3” thing). I think mentally if I'm committing to a section from start to finish, in this case, REG, that's a lot easier to deal with than possibly re-studying for BEC and wasting three weeks of REG studying.

I will now go full-bore into REG mode. Won't lie though, I'm probably not going to have a single good night's sleep until May 24th score release.

I always took the day of and day after an exam off then moved on to the next section. You can't take the same exam twice in a window so there's no point wasting time studying for a section you've already taken. Spend that time studying for the next one.

Also, IMO you're better off taking time off from a failed section anyway. Spending too much time all at once on a section is how people fail over and over. If you don't take a break, you're going to end up getting good scores on MCQ through muscle memory and it will be harder not to find yourself skimming material because of how familiar it is. Anything you forget during the time on the next section that doesnt come back to you quickly was information you didn't have down pat anyway.

    BEC - 10/05/15 - 83
    FAR - 11/09/15 - 79
    AUD - 11/30/15 - 84
    REG - 02/14/16 - 82
