Hiring process in L.A. (or any city with offer extension date restrictions)?

Several weeks ago, I completed an out-of-state office visit/second-round interviews with the Big 4 in L.A.. I had done a lot of researching people’s experiences with the hiring process beforehand, I was excited/nervous to be able to hopefully hear whether or not I had received an offer within the day or next few weeks, but at the close of the office visit, the recruiters informed my round of recruits that they wouldn’t be able to let us know whether we were extended offers until mid-November, at the earliest, due to L.A.-school specific restrictions. I do not go to school in L.A. and had not anticipated that, since that in my state–and it seems for most offices–they are able to extend offers on an “as-needed” basis as the office visits progress. So I just sent my thank you e-mails and have laid low since then.

Does anyone have experience with this sort of hiring/recruiting process, where there is a restriction on the date that the firms can extend offers?

I assume that, since they’ve had all this time to assess their entire candidate pool, they have already decided who they want (or don’t want) to extend offers to. So if I don’t hear from them with an offer within the first week, should I assume I’m not getting one? When would be a reasonable time to follow up, if I don’t hear back?

    Thanks!
