How do you study Reg? Becker

I am using Becker lectures and book for Reg. My plan is to go over the book with the lecture. Do you just focus on the highlighted parts and skip the other parts? I figured out that writing notes and trying to blend it with the book and then rewriting all of that is very time consuming and I will never be done before my exam. So I decided to go over the book while listening to the lecture and then review that part from the book and do some homework on that part and then move to the next lecture with the book and so on. What do you think? I will get ninja multiple choice questions too in May and start doing that also.

This has been my method with Becker/Ninja MCQ from the beginning –

    1. Read the chapter. More like browse the chapter. I give myself time to pick up at least a basic understanding of the key concepts, but don't go too indepth on the details.

    2. Listen to lecture and take notes. I go through the book in time with the lecture and make the notes as appropriate.

    3. Homework. All of it.

    4. Review any obvious problem areas before moving on.

Once I've gone through a few sections, I'll begin throwing in the Ninja MCQs to keep myself fresh on material that I've already gone over and start to hammer down the details.

The most critical time for me is the two week review before the exam. I'll usually reset my Ninja MCQs and start fresh, working those in between rereading the chapters for a third time, taking my own notes on subjects I am having trouble with and really focusing on those areas. I also use Becker's Final Review in my last week as a quick refresh.

    FAR - 2/29/16 - 93
    AUD - 4/13/16 - 99
    REG - 6/6/16 - (6/21/16)
    BEC - Tentative - 7/11/16

Baby boy is due 7/27/16. Can we make it?

@amuz1323 how many chapters/ lectures do you go through each week? I started with business law first and it took me forever with listening to the lectures and taking notes and going through the book. I am thinking about getting ninja notes to cut down the time and I would rewrite it on my own, what do you think? How long have you been studying for Reg?

A bit similar to amauz, my study program was:

    1) Read the chapter (not entirely but subsection by subsection according to the lecture splits) & make my own notes by typing
    2) Watch the lecture
    3) Do all the homework (MCQs and simulations).

If I could do it over again, I would've actually skipped the lecture and only watch it for parts that I did not entirely understand.
That would have saved me a lot of time since the lectures tend to be lengthy and if its material you already understand but just need time to digest and memorize, then there is not much need to watch those part of the lectures.

Go through the material several times with the goal of retaining more every time you look at it – don't try to master every the first time around. You'll never make it through. Skim the book test yourself repeat several times until it sticks. I passed just by studying but if I had to do it over I would only focus on the major topics.

Amauz, I too am curious to know how many chapters you go through each week. I would also like to know how many hours you study per week and how long you had to study in order to prepare for FAR. I am about to start studying for my first exam (BEC) and could use some advice on study hours and how long to study before scheduling the next test. The timeline I have below is an estimate because I want to get all exams out of the way before April but it leaves no room for retakes. Congrats on your score and the baby you have on the way!

    Thanks!

Maki, are you working full time as well as studying? I'm impressed with how you were able to get both AUD and REG out in the same month. I would have liked to schedule my exams more closely together but I'll only be studying 25 hours per week and I really don't want to retake any exams.

Working full time not related to accounting. I started studying beginning of January, so it's more like 2 months between the time I started studying and taking the second exam. People study way too long IMO – a lot of test comes down to discipline and knowing yourself well enough to study effectively (highly individual)

Maki, thanks for your input. I have been out of school for a year now and I have forgotten A LOT of what I learned in college. I work in accounting but I don't think that what I do helps me much since it's really just accounts payable. I have purchased Becker self study and Ninja Notes. I intend to buy the NINJA MCQ and possibly audio down the road. I have about four hours to study on weekdays and 5 or 6 hours on Saturdays. I think that my biggest challenge will be to start a good study pattern. I will start studying on May 1st.
