So I’ve read this on many threads and was also told by many that when I do MCQs, I should take notes.

Can someone elaborate on this a little more? I’m not sure what that actually means and what would be an effective method of “taking notes.” I’ve realized that I’ve been solving these MCQs incorrectly this whole time..hence the constant 60s on REG. I also realized that I’m actually supposed to run through these MCQ’s MORE THAN ONCE. yes, Im pretty much an idiot. ha!

So far, I’ve been just writing the explanations that Becker provides when I an answer incorrectly. Am I doing this correctly? Do I just read these explanations and hope that I retain it somehow?

Definitely in a pickle here…would appreciate any feedback to what has worked for you! Will taking notes help boost my score then?

    Thx all as always!

Not only do you just read and write the explanation but you must understand why the correct answer is correct and why the others are wrong. When answering, ask yourself why you believe the answer you chose is correct. Being able to back up your answer with the concept will help solidify your choice. Then, If you're having particular trouble in a certain area, go back to your book and reread that section to gain more understanding.

A.) Why this question is correct

B.) Why this question is incorrect

C.) Why this question is incorrect

D.) Why this question is incorrect

In hindsight, if I had just practiced the above I feel that I wouldn't have needed to watch the videos (i.e., save a huge chunk of my life sacrificed to staring at a screen when I could have just read the Becker chapters).

Passed all sections of the exam on the first attempt with the above MCQ practice. Get 95% on all MCQ sections and skip practicing simulations.

Taking notes surely isn't guaranteed to boost your score, but it might help. You just need to experiment to find a strategy that you are comfortable with. I know note taking is pretty popular around here, but personally, I did very little note-taking through out my exams. I prefer simply cranking through MC. My point is, don't too hung up others' study methods if you feel they aren't your style.

For REG, however, there I did one thing differently that I felt helped. Due to the sheer amount of memorization/rules in corporate tax, property taxation, and securities regulation, I essentially turned the text into flash card format. It took a few hours, but I found it was worth the effort.

I would also suggest if it's a calculation problem to go thru the explaination to see what you did wrong. I then basically “rework” the question as to make sure I do the right steps. This has always helped me get the that question or a similar one correct the next time. I'm currently studying for FAR and a 30 question review can take me an hour to do and review. I'll admit I don't write any notes from MCQ I've missed – I take notes as I read because I learn best this way. As for the Becker lecture which as VERY dull most of the time, I like to listen to them as I do dishes, fold clothes, etc. That way I accomplish a household task and my mind tends to not wander as much then.
