What’s the max # of days you’ve ever lagged behind in your study schedule and how did you manage in the end?

Did you put your head down and power through all the material in time for exam day, or did you have to sacrifice by only glancing at the material (no where near mastering it) in order to catch up? In what way, if any, did this hiccup in your schedule affect your final review period?

I didn't give myself near enough time on REG so I never did any of the homework on the 3 business law chapters, and never reviewed it after I looked at it for the first time. Ended up getting “stronger” on it somehow…I wouldn't recommend that approach.

thechampman, how exactly do you usually study? Your scores are GREAT, and have gotten three tests done in a two to three month span. That is AMAZING!

I use Becker and provide for two days for each section consisting of reading, video lecture, flashcards, homework and sims as a first pass. This gives me anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks per exam which include the initial two days per section as noted, one day per section of review by completing the homework and sims again, and finally, a final review in areas of the material where I am weak plus the Becker Final Exam

I often fall behind where life gets in the way here and there or my motivation wanes and I mess around instead of studying. I was behind for both FAR and BEC from 4 to 6 days deciding to just put my head down and study more until my scheduled exam date. I never move the exam date for either and almost caught up. The time, effort and fear of missing the deadline have worked out so far.

Note I am six days behind on REG right now only finishing R-3 tonight when I should be through R-6. I allowed Labor Day weekend, the US Open, FIBA Basketball and family to get in the way so now I have to make up the time and ensure I take REG on October 1st. I so screwed myself for the next 2 1/2 weeks.

“You must learn to love ADVERSITY…” and “Good intentions are not enough…. PERFORM!!!” are two of my favoite quotes by Lloyd Ward, former Maytag CEO, as they helped me through college 15 years ago as a full-time student working two jobs. They are helping me get through this Fresh Hell of today called the CPA Exam.

Keep your head down, work hard, put in the time and your labor will pay off.

BEC – was on schedule, left 1 week to review

REG – was crazy behind, had to quickly skim through about 100-150 pages, and then just plowed through a ton of MCQs; managed to get a 75

    AUD – same as BEC

as for the current one, FAR … this is going to be tough, there's a lot of material, but I plan on just dedicating my life to it for the next 2 months.

The first time I took REG, I was behind about a month and said screw it and just took the test. Unfortunately, I got a 73.

With BEC, I was about a week behind, so only had about four days for review. I felt prepared. Got a 74. At this rate, I think I'll reschedule the next time I fall behind.

I'm currently about a half of chapter behind in FAR but I know I'll be able to catch up since I delibertly plan catch up days in my study plan between each chapter (Becker). I also build in mini reviews between each chapter (2-3 sets of 30 questions) that I can always skip or reduce if I feel I did okay on the chapter.

I also try to look at my schedule and realize that there are some event that I refuse to miss – Life is just too short. So I plan those into my study plan too. I've chosen to be okay with taking a bit longer to finish all the exams so I can still be apart of the things that are important to me. A quote a friend sent me seems to sum up my approach: “The race is not for the swift but for those that can endure.”

I usually stuck to my schedules pretty well.

FAR was probably my worst, though. I wanted to have two weeks to review stuff but only had about a week when I actually finished the book. Don't take off more two days in a row! It makes it super hard to get back into the flow of studying.

    FAR: May 1st, 2014 - 91
    AUD: May 29th, 2014 - 97!
    BEC: July 16th, 2014 - 91
    REG: August 29th, 2014 - 88
