I am currently studying for the FAR section of the CPA exam and came across the NINJA studying technique. I was wondering for those who have used Yaeger CPA review course along with the Wiley multiple choice they supply you with, how did you use the NINJA technique? There is the lectures along with multiple choice question which are explained and worked on during the lecture. Once a topic is discussed such as Installment sales, the teacher will go on to do multiple choice questions that pertain to that information in the Wiley CPA exam review book.

So, with the NINJA approach should I watch the videos and take notes on just the conceptual parts first to accomplish completing the N part, and skip the multiple choice parts until I finished all the videos and notes for the first time? Or should i take notes on the conceptual and multiple choice parts, then rewrite them. After that go into the Wiley CPA test bank software and practice those multiple choice over hundreds if not thousands of time?

    Thank you in advanced!

DomG15: I am also using Yaeger Cram and NINJA for FAR in August. I use the NINJA notes while I am listening to lectures and take additional notes in the margins. You can match page numbers of the NINJA notes to the FAR lectures by “eyeballing” it. Then, when I rewrite the NINJA notes, I also re-write my added notes. Sometimes, Yaeger refers to their handout and they have good detail there that is very helpful. I cross reference the Yaeger Handout in my NINJA notes and then study that additional resource when I am reviewing that particular topic. For example, I may write W808 (Wiley Book p 808) or YH22 (Yaeger Handout page 22). I re-read my notes every nite and at lunch.

..and yes, THOUSANDS of MCQs and all the SIMs I can find.

I hope this helps! Good luck on FAR!

Dom, good question. I suggest when doing the videos you take notes on both the lecture and mcqs. Cindy is the bomb…if she writes it down you write it down. I always paused the mcqs and answered before the video…if you know the answer you confidently can probably skip the notes…otherwise do so. I would strive to do all wiley mcqs, and take notes on the fact nuggets in the answers. After you rewrite your video (lecture/book mcqs) and wiley mcq notes, you should take some time to review these notes once or twice the last week. Like Jeff says, it is really painful taking 4 legal pads of notes and then rewriting…but I promise you it helps. good luck

Both BaxterCPA and jlg2010, thank you for the prompt responses. I will definitely take your approaches into effect. Cindy is awesome she really gets into the subject and teaches it well. Hopefully this works well. jlg2010 did you add the NINJA notes to your studying regime? BaxterCPA did you use any other review course before the Yaeger CPA CRAM? Thanks once again truly appreciate the responses from both of you.

DomG: I also used Gleim online because they have the “Sim Wizard” and another test bank (never too many MCQs, right?). I try to focus on as many Sims as possible to help with knowledge of the material and time management. Good luck to you!

@BaxterCPA thank you so much. I definitely want to also incorporate Gleim MC and Sim, which exact product did you buy from them? If possible send me a link for the FAR part of MC and Sim. Thank you in advance.

So I'm in the very early stages of choosing the path to take and pass the CPA exam. I was thinking of getting the yaeger videos, the 10 point combo that includes the Wiley bank, and the Wiley book from Amazon. I want to know if this would be enough to prepare myself. I am limited on funds so will try to purchase lectures used.

    FAR: April or May 2014
    AUD:
    REG:
    BEC:
    Scared: 100

FAR first and only attempt: 2014 Wiley textbook, 10 Pt Combo, and WTB

I only get one try to have to give it my all and try to get 75 on my first go around.

-The only thing that stands between you and what you want out of life is the will to try and the faith to believe it's possible.
