I don't understand how "Authoritative Literature" works

    Hi all

(sorry for any grammatical and/or other misstakes in my English, I am not American)

I have Becker 2014 materials and are currently studying for AUD. Some of the sims require you to research “authoritative literature”.

The setup of the authoritative literature in Becker reminds me of something that was constructed back in the early 90’s. The “Search Results” show everything in blue hyperlinks and lots of text, which makes it really difficult to read. However, worst part of this is that everytime I click something, and do not find what I was looking for, I cannot just click on in the “Table of Contents” thread of the same standard (that just gives me an error message saying “Wrong path”), but have to search the exact keywords in order to get the hyperlink and be able to navigate to the right page. Is this really how this is set up also during the exam??? How is this even possible? I hold an European equivalent to the CPA and reminder having a modern, robust research tool where I could easily navigate around using the table of contents and by using different keywords and clickable links.

Also, the search function is just as horrible. I specifically wanted to go to AT section 501 “Reporting on Entity’s Internal Control Over Financial Reporting: Attest Engagement” but was not able to get there since any keywords I could possibly think of did not lead me to the right hyperlinks. Even putting “AT section 501” as a search string did not get me there, and it turned out not to be possible to use the full name of the standard since the search function would not accept : and ‘ in the search string. Again, is this how the database is set up???

    Thanks

On the real exam, I'm 99% sure you could click in the table of contents to go to the section. However, I don't think there were clickable hyperlinks in the articles (say in AT section 501, “attest” wouldn't be a link to “Attest” in a definitions section, or a reference to section 401 wouldn't be a link to 401). So, mixture of both. It's been almost a year since I took AUD, so my memory is a little fuzzy, but I was able to find what I needed with the AL and I'm pretty sure I used the Table of Contents to help me get there.

If you do the sample test here:

    https://apps.aicpa.org/CBTeSampleTest/SampleTestStart.html?cm_mmc=AICPA-_-CPAExam-_-exam_tutorial_parallel-_-CBT-e+sample+tests+and+tutorial

…you can practice with the real thing a little bit.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Thanks, will check the sample exam. Still confused though why Becker would not include a proper database when you pay so much for their materials.
