I have 1 month left of my NTS, and 2 exams purchased

Since I was approved for my NTS, I had six months to take my exams before the NTS expires. I have already taken FAR and BEC, thus I began to study for REG. I plan to take REG within the next two weeks as my NTS expires on May 16th.This does leave me in a tough position, as I have purchased both REG and AUD for this NTS period. Is there a reason for me not to take AUD on a whim with only a week of studying if I take my time with REG?

To simplify my question: Is there a difference on ones record between passing all of your exams on the first try versus failing and taking it again?

Should I just go for it since I have already paid for the exam for this NTS?

    Thank you for the advice!

if your NTS for reg and aud expires on may 16th I would study for aud because it's shorter and no math is involved. I personally think, given the small window of time you have, your chances of passing are better with AUD.

I would agree with the above poster. With three weeks left to go you don't have a whole lot of time, so you need to use it very wisely. Your best move at this point is to probably eat the fees on one of the exams. If it was me, I'd do AUD and cram as hard as you can the next three weeks. That exam is doable in that amount of time, I should know because I studied for it for four weeks and got a 98. There's a lot more material with REG, so not sure if the three week time frame is realistic unless you are studying full-time.

What you don't want to do is split what little time you do have between two completely different exams because all that will do is increase the odds that you fail both and have to pay fees for two exams instead of just the one.

    Thank you for the advice!

I am about half way through the REG material with becker already, so I am not sure if that changes your opinions. I would like to get that exam out of the way and feel pretty confident with possibly taking it by the 9th.

I will of course play it by ear and if I need the full time until my NTS expires I will take it but is it worth it to give AUD a shot with a week of full time studying for AUD? Since I already paid for the exams, would it be worth it to just try and see what happens or are there consequences to not passing on the first try?

@yesandstuff there are no consequences of passing on the first try and since you've already paid for it, I would say you should definitely go and take the exam. Also, you might have a chance with full-time one week of studying. Depending upon how efficiently you utilize your time and what's your experience when it comes to auditing. Juts plan ahead of time about the material you would like to cover every day and you might be able to set history. There was a poster on here in Q4 2014 study groups of REG and BEC (@kroko) and he managed to pass BEC with only 3 days of studying! I understand that all of us are different and his situation would be completely different than yours but my point is, if you are determined enough you can definitely do it. Hope that helps.

    AUD - 82
    BEC - 78
    FAR - 78
    REG - 83

Yeah, if you're halfway through the Becker REG materials then by all means go full speed with that one. Keep in mind the second half of the book covers roughly only 40% of exam content, and of that 40% almost half (or 20% of the exam overall) is the R5 chapter about ethics and professional responsibility. R5 is about as straight forward as it gets and is pretty much just memorization, some of the easiest points on the exam. R6 – R8 is all biz law and while the concepts are a bit more abstract, those chapters only cover approximately 20% of the content on the exam. So, it's a lot of material to cover but low odds that you'll get a bunch of questions on any one topic. Just put in the time and I'm sure you'll do great.

Go for it. Worst case you fail, best case, you're done.

Yea, that would change my mind. If your already half way through the material keep going. I second what @belowscope said. R1-R4 are the heaviest tested chapters. Focus most of your time there. R5 is important to but the topics are straight forward. R6-8 can be tricky and get a little confusing I find that reading the chapter a few times helped get the concepts straight. Make sure you spend a few hours playing with the IRC AL I hear that's key for the SIMS because they are brtual. For audit, I would spend maybe 2 days reading the audit book then nonstop mcq until your exam date. I know people who have past on this forum with a week of studying for audit full time. So I'm not sayings impossible its just going to suck ass! lol Initially, I thought you hadn't started studying for either one. I wouldn't let money go to waste I would sit for both exams regardless. GOODLUCK! and if you have questions post in the q2 reg study group. It's a very helpful group!

p.s. if you take AUD by 5/15 you will get your score back in 2 weeks so you might want to consider that instead of taking it on the 16th.

I think the only thing that would count against you for retakes on your “record” is if you were going for the EWS award. Other than that, it's all about time and money.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Thank you for the advice everyone! I plan to take both now and will take AUD on 5/15 because why not.
