I can speak but my voice is rough and it cracks, I'm worried that I wont speak as clearly. I am leaning towards not rescheduling unless someone convinces me otherwise.

I would reschedule. They can't hold it against you for not feeling well. If they do, you have to ask yourself if you really want to work there anyway.

If for no other reason, it's going to be fairly difficult to speak if you lost your voice.

I would never reschedule an interview. It is on the phone. Limit speaking today, and do things to restore your voice (cough drops, tea with honey etc.) Then apologize on the phone tomorrow if it is still cracking a little. I had a cold when I went to some interviews last year. I just drugged myself up and declined shaking their hand.

I would be trying any and every home remedy for laryngitis that you can find.

Were you extended an offer from any of the firms that knew you were sick when you interviewed with them?

I'd say try all the remedies (limit speaking, and try honey, throat drops, etc.) in this time leading up to the interview, then explain the situation at the beginning of the interview so they know. They may offer to reschedule if you sound bad enough, but otherwise power through and hopefully they will be understanding.

    Good luck!!!

If you have a phone interview, I'd imagine that you are not coming from campus recruiting? From my experience, I scored phone interviews with the Big4 who did not recruit from my school, so my phone-interviews were a one-off from their normal recruiting. If that is similar to your case I would be concerned with getting overlooked if you reschedule. That is, the recruiter agrees to reschedule, forgets, you send a reminder, they ignore it/can't get to it lol and so on. With many managers working on public job's Q3 right now, its sometimes difficult for recruiting to find someone for you to talk to.

As mentioned, limit speaking, try home remedies (hot tea with honey works for me), could have a cup handy during the call and do your best. Maybe make a joke with the interviewer about being sick which is fine for a phone interview (not contagious over the phone) if only you didn't also lose your voice!

Laryngitis is tricky, just because you've lost your voice today doesn't mean you won't have it back tomorrow or even in an hour. If someone tried to reschedule a phone interview with me a day ahead because they'd lost their voice, I would very much believe it was just a line. As Kimberoni said, if you sound THAT bad they will offer to reschedule.

@bill Yes. I was extended the offer at one place and the other did not currently have anything that I fit for, but we have kept in contact. I was not visibly sick because of the medicine and just advised I had a little cold so they probably shouldn't shake my hand. It was fine.

Just curious. That's not too bad. I was imagining you rolling in there all runny nosed, with Kleenex and all.
