Impact of switching jobs before recruiting season

    Hi all,

I’m starting my grad studies full time this fall (online via a state school), and am currently working an AP job while working on my exams. However, I am not too happy with this job for a myriad of reasons and am considering focusing on school/exams while working contract/temp jobs. Possibly some kind of part time work at a CPA firm or the like, more relevance and more pay.

My issue is this: My two year employment history already includes a 5 month temp at a F500 (essentially an internship during a maternity leave), and a three month cost accounting temp to hire stint I left due to it not being a good fit. I’ve been at this current permanent AP job since October. Would leaving my current AP job reflect poorly or make me look like too much of a job hopper in a recruiter’s eyes? I can use the rationale that I needed to focus on school and contract jobs give me more cash in hand as well, but I worry that they would pin me for someone who won’t stick around (though I would like to be at a firm long term, I’m sick of moving around!). Thanks.

It depends on the company. I used to do interviews for a fortune 500 company and i would not even schedule an interview with someone that did not have stable work history. If i saw someone that had 3-4 jobs in past 2 years that told me two things… either they suck as an employee and get fired or they get bored and like to job hop.

Hiring an employee is very costly for employers… you have alot of management that make alot of money spending time interviewing you, then you have hr department filling up paperwork , then you have your superiors training you so the last thing the company wants to do is hire someone that will leave in a few months.

I would recommend you stay at your current job and go to school part time.

BEC -Waiting on score May 5th

FAR - Q3 depending on if i pass above two in Q2
