Hello, I am willing to get licensed in VA. Currently I work at doctors office which doesn’t meet experience requirement, so I need to work at CPA firm etc for full time 1 year. But I don’t want to change my job because my boss made good offer if I get my licence. What should I do? Any advice please?

Is your current work in accounting? If so, have you considered getting licensed in a different state where your experience would count, given that you won't be doing taxes or audits as a CPA in VA anyway?

Thanks for your suggestion @Lilla. So do I have to be VA CPA in order to prepare tax for VA clients? I searched few states but they are requiring work under CPA supervisor which I don't have. I texted to your gmail few weeks earlier 🙂

Per this https://www.cpamobility.org/faqs/ CPA can prepare taxes if state has equivalent requirement.

@Ideree I don't know for certain the VA laws – I would look around the VA CPA board website and see if it specifies. CPA Mobility has pretty good info, but would want to double-check with the VA CPA board before actually practicing. Given that VA is a neighboring state to KY, I'd guess there's a good chance that you can prepare taxes in VA for VA residents with a KY license.

@Lilla thank you so much sharing your knowledge. Do you know any state that counts experience if I worked company which doesn't provide service to public? Like physicians group for my example. There are few states which doesn't require work under CPA but I think they require company must serve accounting to the public.

    Here below VA requirement :

    (3) Experience

    Pursuant to Board Regulation 18VAC5-22-100:

Prior to applying for a license, an individual must have been employed in academia, a firm, government, or industry in any capacity involving the substantial use of accounting, financial, tax, or other skills that are relevant, as determined by the VBOA, to providing services to the public using the CPA title or to an employer using the CPA title for a period that is the full-time equivalent of one year. Whether other skills are relevant shall be determined by the VBOA on a case-by-case basis. Self-employment does not meet the definition of experience in accordance with § 54.1-4400, Code of Virginia.
