I recently had an my second interview with a cpa firm. I felt like it went well. Answered all the questions and had plenty of questions to ask them. I asked the partner how long would it take to hear from them and he said between 2-4 weeks. Does it usually take this long or do they sometimes contact you? Has anyone ever had an offer the same day as the interview? How long should I wait before I contact them again regarding the my employment status ?

    THANKS TO GOD

It is definitely normal in public accounting, especially if you won't be starting until fall. I had one interview process with a large regional firm take over 4 months (and I didn't get the job).

Since the partner have you a timeline, I would wait until 2 weeks to reach out to the recruiter if you haven't heard anything.

Did you get the contact information of those who interviewed you? If so, it is always nice to write a thank you email and reiterate what you feel they liked best about you.

Depending on the firm I'd even say go with a handwritten thank you note. That could be the thing that sets you apart from the next candidate. Soft skills and your ability to get along with people may take you further than the actual technical aspects of the job.

2- 4 weeks seems reasonable. I would follow up within the next 24 hours just thanking them for their time, etc.

As far as contacting for employment status, wait the two weeks, then contact the recruiter.

Yes, I've received an offer the day of the interview (was a half day process of meeting the partners/staff, going out to lunch, conducting interviews, etc.). Before I left, the OMP called me into his office and extended an offer, but this caught me off guard as most offers I've received are not extended for at least a few days post interview.

No, yes, starting 2 weeks from the final interview date contact them around 1x per week to get an update. In the interim, continue interviewing… since they obviously are.

The thing is there is no recruiter. They are a mid size firm but not huge enough that they are using a recruiter. I asked the partner about the time frame and he said to contact them after 2 weeks if I don't hear. He said to email the assistant also if any other job offers were presented to me.

    Thank you all for replying

They might get back to you sooner than 2 weeks, but if the partner and his assistant are doing all the hiring work it may take that long to get everything rolling.

His comment about letting them know if you receive another offer indicates that they are, at least, considering you. However, I wouldn't read too much into it.

It depends, it may take more or less than that. When I interviewed with a mid-size public company, I had 3 interviews on a Friday morning, told me I'll hear from them in about a week, but I got a call the next day, on Saturday, at 8:30 am with an offer.

Instead of sending a thank you note to my interviewers, I called all 3 of them on Monday afternoon.

    Good luck!

Oh ok then thank you all. I just had another interview today with a large cpa firm. They seemed really interested in me. I got a call yesterday from senior recruiter and today I had 4 interviews with partners , directors , seniors and staff. Lastly the senior recruiter said they would contact me on Wednesday if I was to receive an offer. From the looks of it it seems that all the interviews went well. Very smoothly . Although I'm interviewing at this firm I'm really hoping to get an offer from medium size firm. If I were to receive an offer from this larger firm on Wednesday would it be okay for me to email the mid size firm that same day?

    THANKS TO GOD

Yes, if you receive an offer notify the assistant and maybe cc the partner. State that you received an offer from whatever firm and inquire if they have any plans of extending you an offer, also. I would also reiterate why you are a good fit and why you would like to join their company.

    Good luck.

My experience: Interview in May with mid size firm, received update 3 weeks later to wait some more, two weeks later find out I was not selected for position but offered to interview for another position, interviewed a week later, update two weeks afterwards, still waiting to this day. I do not reach out and ask for updates as I feel that I should not have to. Most will disagree but if an employer wants you, then they will not forget about you. If they do, they weren't interested. Cheers!

One day I will face that exam.

Question for everyone: if the hiring partner said that the time frame for their decision is 2-4 weeks. When is the best time to contact them to ask if there are any updates regarding the status of my employment? Also should i contact the partner or the assistant? the assistant seems to respond fairly quickly and she handles all the interview appointments.

Wait at least the 2 weeks before asking. Then asking the assistant will be less trouble to the partner, but asking the partner will put your name back in his mind which could be helpful, so it's a toss-up of who to ask.

Start asking 2 weeks from the date.

If email, then send to the assistant and ‘cc the partner. This is not being pushy, it's being assertive and making them answer. If they're not interested, fine, but they should tell you rather than keeping you on a rope. Following up is one way to get them to move… one way or another.
