Interviewed with Crowe Horwath, got rejected today

I thought I really connected with them and did well in the interview, but I guess that wasn’t enough. Recruiter called me back and left a message saying that they wanted someone with more experience in financial services audits, which I do not have. But I think that was just their nice way of rejecting me. But how does one gain experience, without experience in audit?

I am sorry to hear that. I really have no explanation for the rejections. I will say that I truly believe that you will get the job you are meant to have. I am going for what is technically my 7th interview for this same job I have been interviewing for for a couple months (progressively, I have not been rejected for this role prior)! I have definitely had my share of rejection. I am hoping this is the one for me BUT if it isn't I will be ok. I have been job searching for employment in accounting for over a year in a big market! Hang in there!

Wow, yes keep pushing through and plugging away in applications, also utilize networking. I got the Crowe interview by adding someone on LinkedIn who works at Crowe. The more interview you have, the higher chance of getting a job. It's by not trying at all you completely reduce your chance to zero. So keep trying and I'm sure something will come up!

I had an interview recently where they told me that my three years of sales tax auditing didn't count as audit experience. I had the same thought, how can I get experience when they will only hire people that already have experience.

Did you guys apply for the entry level positions or the experienced hire positions? If you don't have the necessary experience you may to start as a staff.

I know when I was going from private to public I was applying for senior positions since I have 5 years of internal audit experience. I got rejected for all those jobs because I did not have public experience and there was no way I was going to be able to run a team as a senior.

It was for experienced hire, so they forwarded my resume to the campus recruiter after rejecting me. But it's like, why bring me in and waste my PTO day and prep time if I'm not qualified in the first place? I'm sure my presentation had something to do with it if they brought me in.

Did you get the contact info for the campus recruiter? You should touch base with them. If you can get a moment of their time you can explain that you have experience, but you are not sure where your experience fits in with their company. They would probably be more than glad to help you figure out the best positions for your experience level.

” But how does one gain experience, without experience in audit?”

Campus Recruiting > Audit Internship > Audit Full time. Basically.

I'd take what they said at face value. Seems like someone with better experience trumped you in the interview process.
